Liddius Goodius takes the lead in the Chicago gay rap scene
Liddius Goodius is taking the lead as the LGBT+ artist to watch in the Chicagoland area, and we love to see it!
Liddius Goodius is an openly LGBT+ artist currently based in Chicago, and considers himself an “every way, every day” type of rapper. His meaning behind that is “if you’re trying to fall in love, be turnt, or cry, there’s something for you in my music. My music invites you to be free. Free at spirit, free at heart, and freely raunchy.”
“Growing up, I didn’t have much. The Englewood area didn’t have much for young black men who identified as gay either. From family trauma, sexual abuse, and consistent hate crimes, I managed to survive, and while doing so I “LIVED MY TRUTH.””
He goes on to say that his goal as an artist is to “not only inspire, but open doors, for queer men and boys, throughout the Chicagoland area. Through mutual knowledge and experience, my music will reach this demographic and others, while also creating a new wave for LGBT+ artists of any sort.”
On June 6th, 2019, Liddius dropped his debut mixtape “2112” which features booty shaking bops such as “Shake That,” and his breakout hit “Sexual Preferences,” where he also premiered a sexy music video for it. Check that video out below!
On July 3rd, 2020, Liddius released his second mixtape “Periodttt!” with powerhouse singles such as the title track “Periodttt,” the banger of a track “No Hook,” of course his iconic track “Stone Cold” where the music video has several scenes of him wrestling WWE style. It’s definitely a music video to keep your eyes peeled for!
Las year, on March 8th, 2021, Liddius Goodius released his third mixtape “OMGoodius.” It featured so much versatility from him, with full on hip-hop bops to R&B style slow records. The amount of talent from him seems unmatched with his stellar rap flows that pack a punch to singing smoothly across other tracks, not to mention the feature list on this project is STACKED. I think “G.D.H.Y.L(Get Down How You Live),” “Get Ya Ass Beat,” “Bad Boys (feat. Keis & Rico Cassadine)”, “G.R.T Remix (feat. Alicia Marie, DomoMoon, & Mikey Everything),” and “Lonely (feat. Alicia Marie & Busclown)” are my favorites from this project. Check out his music video for “Get Ya Ass Beat”!
I had the privilege to interview him for Bear World Magazine. Check it out below!
Bryce Quartz: When did you first start making music, and how long have you been making music?
Liddius Goodius: I started making music in February of 2019. I started off with a reggaeton type beat and wrote down random thoughts throughout the day. However, I’ve been doing music professionally for 2 years now.
BQ: How would you describe the kind of music you make?
LG: I would describe my music as raunchy, very bold and eager. Similar to who I am as a person.
BQ: How do you navigate the music industry as an openly gay artist?
LG: Well, not with a GPS! I really don’t know how, and I really don’t know if either. I look at it as “this is who I am, and this is what I do.” So I guess I just choose to be free and excel in my own path.
BQ: What are the top five songs in your discography that every Liddius fan should know?
LG: The top 5 songs of mine that the fans should know are: My very first song “WILL YOU”; My “rapper” song “No Hook”; I think my best music video to date to my song “I Love”; My song in best relations to what I love outside of rapping “Stone Cold”; And last, but definitely not least, a more dominant track “Get Ya Ass Beat”.
BQ: What keeps you motivated as an artist?
LG: I’m motivated by life. The scars on my skin remind me of what I had to endure to reach where I am now.
BQ: Do you have any unreleased work we can look forward to soon?
LG: Yes, I have about 15 tracks unreleased. Tracks with features from heterosexual and homosexual men — Rappers, singers, and philosophers. I’ll be releasing a mixtape, and an EP by the fall.
BQ: What are some of the songs you’ve been listening to on repeat lately?
LG: Lately, I’ve been listening to songs for inspiration. Most of my inspirations comes from female rappers, and actually as of lately, gay rappers too.
On repeat, I have: 42 Dugg – “Free Me”; Liddius Goodius – “Dutty”; CupcaKKe – “Marge Simpson”; and Normani & Cardi B – “Wild Side.”
