BearWatch: Estevan, the God is Houston’s finest!

A legend in the making, Estevan, The God’s unique sound, personality, and brand is making waves in Houston and beyond.

Estevan, The God (Aubrey Williams) is an extraordinary rapper, singer, songwriter and producer known for his distinctive delivery and Houston sound. Born in Houston, Texas, he grew up around many influential family members that loved hip-hop and also had an impact in Houston’s Underground Hip-Hop circuit. In 2012, Estevan debuted his first mixtape GUAPO. Within his first 3 years, he made a name for himself and learned how to stamp his brand. Some of his first songs like “Apple Treez”, “Versace Briefcase” and “HOLLYWOOD” really helped put his name out there.

Now, Estevan has 4 albums on all platforms, including a “chopped & screwed” edition of his album Rose Gold. After listening through his discography, I really enjoy how each project brings its own vibe. It’s always a huge joy when you can not only hear the difference in vocal deliveries across different styles of music, but also when you can hear the evolution of an artist’s over time.

Every single Estevan has put out over the last year had me yearning to be in the club again. “Slut – Remix” was one of the catchiest songs I heard in 2020 that made me feel exactly that. It features Hi Yello, Rico Cassadine, and Ty-Mitch, with each of them bringing something different and sexy to the table. This song from start to finish makes me feel sexy and empowered, and it’s definitely one I have on repeat frequently!

His most recent single “STUPID (feat. MARC MARGIELA & Bori Quenn)” is just another testament to Estevan’s superpower: making music you can move to. The features were perfectly chosen too, as MARC and Bori bring their own unique sound to this club hit. A perfect addition to any workout or party playlist!

Oh, and did I mention he has a feature from fellow Houston rap native, Grammy award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion?

Check it out below!

And, here’s some visuals for this Houston cypher, with Estevan serving looks!

I caught up with with Estevan personally to discuss his music and his experiences as a gay bear rapper. Check out our interview below!

Bryce Quartz: How and when did you get started making music?

Estevan, the God: I started making music at the age of 11 because of my aunt, Million Dollar Girl. She was a Female Rapper In the underground Houston Circuit. She played me her first mixtape, I want to say in like 2004 or 2005, and from that very moment I knew I wanted to make music as well. And that is what I’ve been doing ever since.

BQ: What do you find is the most difficult part about being a gay bear rapper?

ETG: I find it very difficult for the masses to take gay rapping serious. I want to be on the level of Kendrick Lamar, Drake & Nicki Minaj. And I put too much work into my craft to just be looked at like some parody Rapper. I will say people are coming around and I hope to see a big increase in Gay Rap on a mainstream level in the next few years.

BQ: What other artists influence your musical style?

ETG: Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Trina, Nicki Minaj, Mystikal, Nate Dogg, and even more people. But most of the rappers that were thriving during the early 2000’s influenced my musical style.

BQ: What are some of your favorite songs from your discography thus far?

ETG: I have a song called “Get Money” that features Rico Cassadine, and I always have that song on repeat. It’s like my motivational song. It really gets me hype to go out and go get it.

BQ: What motivates you?

ETG: Money, business moves, and the thought of a lavish lifestyle. I’ve always wanted to be a successful businessman and create opportunities for other people like me. So, honestly, having a nice home, nice car and a large savings account motivates me. I never want to be broke again.

BQ: What can we expect next from you?

ETG: My fifth studio album, GUAPOTRON, will be out April 30th, 2021 on all digital platforms. I’m so excited for that, cause I really feel that GUAPOTRON will take me even further in my career. I have many collabs and features coming out during the summer of 2021 too, so you can expect a lot from The Guapo God!

BQ: What other artists are you listening to right now?

ETG: I’m always listening to GodIsMikey, he’s one of those artists I would love to do a “Watch The Throne” type of album with one day. I listen to a lot of Lil’ B The BasedGod’s music because a lot of what he did is being duplicated every day. I’ve also been really in tune with Lil’ Kim’s Notorious KIM album and I’ve been blasting Nicki Minaj Pop records too.

BQ: Thank you so much for taking the time to answer those questions for us, Guapo!
