Singer Nakia gives hope with ‘It’s Never Too Late’, supports SIMS foundation

If you’ve been following singer Nakia on social media, you’ll notice that he has been very busy lately!

Though the past year has been rough on us all, Nakia has managed to inspire us all by doing some pretty amazing things, including working with his local Austin Texas Musicians organization to bring about better opportunities for Texas musicians and receiving a surprise Zoom call from actor Matthew McConaughey, who was impressed with the work he has been doing in the music community.

This week, Nakia released a new song entitled “It’s Never Too Late”, which he penned with the help of his 8 year-old co-writer, Charlie Cotton. The song is about hope and starting over, and is the perfect message for the new year.

“I started writing this song after seeing a Facebook post from my friend Savannah Welch about her son Charlie telling her ‘it’s never too late for things to get better for anyone’”, says Nakia.

“I was immediately inspired by the simplicity of it, the melody came quick and the lyrics flowed. Once I was about halfway done with the song I sent it to Savannah and asked Charlie to help me finish the bridge. It was totally a magical experience and I am so honored to have shared it with Charlie.”

The song is Nakia’s first ever Bandcamp Exclusive Edition of a song, and the album artwork is also designed by Charlie. The artwork is exclusive to this version of the song, and that a portion from every sale of “It’s Never Too Late” via Bandcamp benefits a charity. “Charlie and I chose The SIMS Foundation, which has been providing access to mental health and addiction recovery services to Austin musicians and their families for over 20 years,” says Nakia.

“I hope people hear ‘It’s Never Too Late’ and really have this renewed sense of responsibility to care for themselves and for others,” Nakia told American Songwriter

“At the end of the day, we’re all the same, we’re all the same energy, we’re just a bunch of atoms, cells and star gas, literally, walking around in the universe. We’re such a tiny little blip in the rest of the world. I just can’t stress enough that what’s going to set us apart as a society, moving forward, is whether or not we embrace empathy or we turn away from it.”
