New documentary goes inside Europe’s LGBTQ utopia

The Netherlands seems to have it all, including full LGBTQ equal rights and transgender healthcare. But is it really paradise?

“Sex, Drugs & Bicycles”, an award-winning documentary that delves into the paid vacations, universal healthcare, LGBTQIA+ acceptance and windmills of The Netherlands, from an American point of view. It will air as part of PBS’ Link Voices series on February 26.

An unmissable documentary, ‘’Sex, Drugs & Bicycles’’ takes a funny and provocative look at Holland and answers the question: is having month-long double paid vacations, legal drug use, no fear of homelessness and universal healthcare (also for transgender surgery) the nightmare we’ve been warned about in the U.S.?

The answer may surprise you. Then again it may not. The Netherlands may be best known for its windmills and tulips (and marijuana “coffeeshops”), but it’s also a country that is at the forefront of LGBTQ equality, free speech laws, and animal rights. Additionally, the Dutch economy is one of the best in the world, and they’re in the top five of almost every quality of life index. Everyone also has excellent health insurance — even sex care for the disabled.

Directed by Jonathan Blank, ‘’Sex, Drugs & Bicycles’’ premieres on PBS February 26.

“Sex, Drugs & Bicycles” will air as part of PBS’ Link Voices series on Friday February 26, 2021 at 7.30PM & 10.30PM and Saturday February 27, 2021 at 2.30AM & 10.30AM on LinkTV.

The movie will be available everywhere the Link Voices series airs, including DIRECTV (375), DISH Network (9410), Apple TV, YouTube and Roku as well as linktv.org and many other outlets.
