Mockumentary ‘Modest Male Exposure’ to screen at Rockbar

Short film Modest Male Exposure, which examines male nudity in the media, gets a screening at popular Bear spot, Rockbar NYC.

Modest Male Exposure is a comedic take on the changing attitudes towards male modesty and nudity. The film will be presented at a free screening at popular New York City Bear hangout Rockbar on Thursday, January 22nd.

In the film, TV reporter Sam Derrick wonders about male modesty and exposure in public places. He also wonders about gender-segregated bathroom facilities, while blogging about some of his recent news segments. From a live post-game locker room interview that accidentally broadcasts naked baseball players, to a segment about a nudist resort where no one is shy; From male high school students who won’t use showers after gym class or open urinals, to concerns about openly LGBTQ people and women in the facilities… The question is: Will hitting the showers with his rugby buddies after games ever be the same?

The answer to this probing question can be found in Modest Male Exposure, the directorial debut of popular New York City drag performer Clover Welsh from Lavender After Dark Media, Shamrock Moon Media, and Latino Fan Club. The film also serves as the producing debut from journalist/photographer Jed Ryan.

Modest Male Exposure features extensive full frontal male nudity, which the filmmakers agreed was crucial to the story.  According to Producer Ryan, “People will ask me, ‘How do you feel about sex and nudity in the movies?’  I say, ‘I feel there’s not enough!’ We found actors who were not only OK with the nude scenes, but who really wanted to do them.”

Ryan added, “I reminded the actors that, in 30 years, they are going to watch this movie again. They will see how young and handsome they all were in 2022, and they are all going to be glad they did the nude scenes when they did!  Also, I would never ask any actor to do anything I wouldn’t do… of which there isn’t too much!”

Modest Male Exposure also stars Mark-Eugene Garcia, Rocco Chanel, Shaun McMurtrie, Frankie Allday, Jonathan Salazar, Ryan Wolowski, Sara Minisquero, Anthony Logan Cole, Sean Stephens, Thomas Delgado, Billy Little, Evan Laurence, and Anu Singh.  The screenplay was written by Clover Welsh with additional material by Jed Ryan.

Both Welsh and Ryan are also actors in the film, with Welsh playing a double role as a male nudist named “Kevin” and a female sports reporter named “Goldie”. The movie was filmed and edited by Dana Bryan.  Bryan is a photographer and director for the highly popular adult film company Latino Fan Club, of which he is also Founder.

After its sneak preview screening at Rockbar on January 27th, the film will move on to the film festival circuit before eventually being available on VOD. A sequel, featuring many of the original cast and creative team, is already in the works!
