Billy Porter sparkles as fairy godmother in Amazon Prime’s ‘Cinderella’ trailer

Amazon Prime has dropped the trailer for the new Cinderella film, and Billy Porter is sparkling fabulosity as the fairy godmother!

It’s been over two years since the Cinderella remake was announced, the first look trailer is finally here! The film, which was originally set for a February 2021 release date, but was postponed due to the COVID 19 pandemic, was written and directed by Kay Cannon. Cannon, who made her directorial debut in 2018 with the queer high school comedy Blockers, brings us a Cinderella tale unlike any other, complete with a gender noncomforming Fairy Godmother played by none other than the amazing and bold Billy Porter! 

In this modern-day retelling of the classic tale, an aspiring fashion designer called Ella dreams of opening her own fashion boutique called “Dresses By Ella.” With Ella being an aspiring fashion designer, it makes perfect sense that her fairy godmother would be played by such a fierce fashion icon as Billy Porter. 

For the past few years, Billy Porter has been stealing every show and red carpet with his bold and fearless fashion choices. The trailer is no exception — Porter steals the show in only four seconds. We can’t take our eyes off of the stunning orange coat-dress designed by Bridgerton costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, a gold choker and custom Jimmy Choo butterfly boots — the look is absolutely SICKENING. And, of course, Porter serves us with effortless grace. 

In May, Cannon told Entertainment Weekly that casting Porter was the easiest part of creating her second project. “Billy articulated the idea [that] magic has no gender,” she said.

Well, we can’t wait to see what else is in store when Cinderella premieres on Amazon Prime on September 3. Until then, check out the trailer below!
