Queer rap icon Rico Cassadine chats about his latest single

Rico Cassadine really ATE this track up!

A native of Atlanta, GA, the rapper, songwriter, model and actor has been rapping ever since he was in high school. On July 2nd of 2020, Rico dropped his debut album Scorpion Sting with hits such as “Head Shot (feat. Busclown),” and “Throw It Back (feat. Young KSB)” among many others.

Last February, Rico dropped his single “Oh Lawd” along with an amazing music video to go along with it. After watching this, it should be clear that Rico is known for EATING his tracks up!

Just last week, Rico dropped his latest single “Can’t Get Right,” a fiery and energetic track where his energy is unmatched! The instrumental brings that flame from the beginning, and compliments Rico’s energy throughout the entire track.

The hook is so catchy, it’s sure to get stuck in your head, and his lyrics and flows definitely yake us on a journey — He’s truly flexing on all of us! I personally adore Rico’s vocal inflections and delivery, really proving that he stands out from the crowd. This song is a must add to all your high energy hip hop playlists!

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Rico. Check out what he has to say!

Bryce Quartz: How and when did you get started making music?

Rico Cassadine: I started off as an actor. Then, when we got done filming, I was looking for something else to do. I remember one of my friends saying “Hey, try music! We all know you can rap.” So, I wrote my first song. That was 2, almost 3 years ago.

BQ: What other artists influence your musical style?

RC: Well some of the artists that influenced me would be Trina, Mystical, OutKast, UGK, Lil’ Chat, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, Key Low Ali, and Busta Rhymes, to name a few. But the artist that has influenced me the most would be Ludacris.

BQ: What are some of your favorite songs from your discography thus far?

RC: “F.Love” is one of my favorites! Also, I love “Oh Lawd”, “Problem Child”, “R&R Piano”, and my feature on “Slut” by Estevan, The God.

BQ: What was one of your favorite parts creating your latest single “Can’t Get Right”?

RC: Being ok with bragging on what I have accomplished and how I have impacted this industry. I hear my sound so much now since I came out, and it’s great to know that I have left my stamp on the Community.

BQ: What can we expect next from you?

RC: You can expect a full project coming soon, and definitely more acting…

But, as for now, catch me every Wednesday on the reality TV show “Chasing Atlanta.”

BQ: What other artists are you listening to right now?

RC: I like Meg, Erika Banks and I’m so glad Nicki is back. I also love Re3bl, Estevan, The God, Sevn Deep, Tuhvon Dneal, Bugz Gutta, Array and Medino Green.

BQ: Thank you so much for taking the time to answer those questions for us, Rico!
