Bette, Judy and the Fresh Prince stop at SF Oasis
SF Oasis continues to become the West Coast premiere location for Off-Broadway-like shows.
Sure they have drag queens and nightclub events. They even sometimes open early for fundraising, community or political events. But where I love my SF Oasis is their shows.
Here’s a few highlights of what’s coming up at this San Francisco institution.
Matthew Martin is Hollywood Royalty promises to be three cabaret acts rolled into one and starting Feb. 6. Martin is a long-standing theatre community member and has been in many shows at the Oasis. He also has won critical acclaim in his Billy Clift movies in which he embodies Bette Davis – Baby Jane? and Hush Up Sweet Charlotte.
This show brings back his Bette Davis and she will be joined by Martin as Judy Garland and Peggy Lee.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Live! returns later in February for a month’s run. Like many shows from the past, SF Oasis offers its stage to talented performers who pay homage to the original TV shows, often with a drag sensibility added to the ride.
Primarily known in the dance community, acclaimed drag queen Major Hammy will be on hand to make the part of Will Smith their own.
Director and adapted by Oasis mainstay Snaxx, the show promises to be worth the trip.
