The Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival is Calling for Bear Content Submissions

The tenth annual Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival is now accepting earlybird submissions through June 1. Qualifying entries must be 30 minutes or less, and must include queer content. Organizers have specifically reached to us in order to send the call out that bear content and/or bear filmmakers are welcome and encouraged to submit their work for this prestigious festival.

The festival will screen again this year at Founders Metropolitan Community Church Los Angeles on October 4th and 5th. Selected Short Films will be presented in four programs celebrating the best cinematic works created by members from our immense and diverse queer community.

This celebration of creative cinema is seeking both experienced and new LGBTQIA+ film-makers to submit their live action or animated films online at FilmFreeway.com. An experienced selection committee will select approximately forty films to be exhibited at the event.

“This year our festival is of particular importance, as it constitutes an act of resistance against the fascist government that wants to erase all things queer from the national consciousness,”  stated Festival Director, Jim Hoffman, who added, the festival’s 2025 watchword: “Visibility is Resistance.”

“As was the case last year,” Hoffman added, “Film festival behemoth Outfest will be offering less than its usual extensive schedule. There has been no official word, but there’s no mention at the Outfest website of their traditional summer festival, nor any announcements of the Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC Film Festival, which emphasizes films by and about people of color.”

“This means many of the films exhibited at our festival will get their only exposure to the Los Angeles market,” Hoffman said, “We are aware that this puts our festival in a unique position. We take this responsibility very seriously.”
