Premiering on June 25th in San Francisco at Theatre Rhinoceros, Goat Blood is a queer horror thriller wrapped around a deeply emotional story about grief, masculinity, memory, and survival.
In the heart of a dense forest, nestled in the bed of a pickup truck, two coworkers, Pablo and Owen, find themselves waiting for their dates. What starts as a casual debate about tacos, friendships, sexuality, and heritage gradually transforms into something deeper… an undeniable attraction simmering beneath their banter!
However, their unexpected connection is soon overshadowed by the arrival of a menacing Chupacabra, threatening to shatter the tranquility of their evening. Owen’s terror at the creature’s appearance pales in comparison to his shock when he learns that the Chupacabra has been a constant presence in Pablo’s life.
The Chupacabra in the play is more than a monster… it becomes a manifestation of buried guilt, inherited fear, and the wounds Pablo has carried since losing his little brother years ago.
The play blends creature-feature suspense with intimate emotional storytelling, asking what happens when the things we avoid finally corner us.
Theatre Rhinoceros in San Francisco is the nation’s longest-running queer theatre company, making it the perfect destination to premiere the play. The space is small and intensely intimate, so while it’s not a fully immersive theatre, the audience will feel dangerously close to the action, almost as if they’re trapped in the room with the creature themselves.
Exploring the blend of horror and queer storytelling, Latino folklore, monsters as emotional metaphors, and how fear and desire often live side by side, Mark-Eugene Garcia has written a must-see play that everyone can enjoy. Goat Blood is also directed by Alejandro Torres and is a co-production with JT Presents.
