Stonewall Inn boycotts Anheuser-Busch products over support of anti-LGBTQ lawmakers

The Stonewall Inn is making a statement for Pride, and we love to see it!

The famous site of the 1969 uprising that was the catalyst for LGBTQ Pride, The Stonewall Inn, is banning all Anheuser-Busch products after becoming aware that the company has been donating money to anti-LGBTQ lawmakers for many years. This includes lawmakers who support recent bills that target transgender youth

According to Out Magazine, co-owners Stacy Lentz and Jurt Kelly reportedly held a demonstration where they poured all their Anheuser-Busch products, including Budweiser, Stella Artois and Michelob Ultra, straight down the drain. This was done in support of the Keep Your Pride Campaign, which seeks to hold corporations accountable for their support of anti-LGBTQ organizations and lawmakers.

“You can’t turn your logo rainbow on social media, call yourself an ally, and then turn around and make donations that fuel hate,” said Stonewall Inn co-owner Stacy Lentz in a statement.

“There are really no excuses, and companies like Anheuser-Busch need to own up to what they’ve done.”

Stonewall also shared data from the Keep Your Pride campaign, which shows that Anheuser-Busch has donated $35,350 to anti-LGBTQ legislators since 2015.

In a statement made to The Hill, a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch claimed that it makes judgments to support candidates who “support the beer industry and the millions of jobs that it creates.” The company also shared information regarding its various partnerships with many LGBTQ organizations.

“Our company and our brands are focused on making a positive and lasting impact when it comes to issues of equality,” the statement claimed. However, that is not nearly enough to repay the damage that has been done, and still being done, to the LGBTQ community.

“We’re horrified to see so-called allies supporting lawmakers who would make life harder for anyone in our community,” stated Stonewall Inn co-owner Kurt Kelly. “We urge Anheuser-Busch and other companies doing this to publicly commit to stop donating to anti-LGBTQ politicians and use their lobbying power to support the Equality Act.”

  • They need to be boycotted just like Chic Filet is now and Cracker Barrel was ( they’ve since changed their antigay ways). There IS no excuse and we shouldn’t tolerate it!
