Paul Middleton’s ‘We Found Love’ cover celebrates self-love, advocates LGBTQ mental health awareness

Popular international artist Paul Middleton drops his new video and chilled-out remix of Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ mega-hit “We Found Love” (featuring Abludo), to raise awareness of mental health in the community.

We are not doing enough to tackle mental health. We need more promotion of self-love in a healthy way, and to stop using social media to project an unrealistic way of life.

Paul Middleton

With two numbers ones in the LGBTQ music charts, Paul was drawn to the lyrics “We found love in a hopeless place.” Having suffered from mental health issues, Paul says, “I felt I was a complete ‘hopeless place’. I had really bad days. Some days I would be on social media and it just made me question who I was. If I didn’t look a certain way, then I didn’t belong in the LGBTQ community – Or I had to be sexually ‘loud’ with pictures, which is not me.”

The lyrics “we found love in a hopeless place” is a reminder that self-acceptance, combined with a love for oneself, is extremely important. It heals one from the inside out, allowing them to receive love from the outside. Paul says “It is a continuous journey of healing, but through the strength and love of my friends and doing healthy things that gave me positive energy, I found I was able to let love fill my life and soul.”

“We Found Love” is out now on iTunes, Spotify, Apple and taken from ‘Remixes’, an EP due for release in February 2020.

Music has helped Paul in the past through his darkest times, namely having a toxic relationship and losing his mother to cancer. The video for “We Found Love” is a celebration of finding self-love and falling in love with his partner, filmed in Sardinia, Italy. It shows the guys exploring the island together.

Paul says “ I felt so lucky to be able to explore such a beautiful island with an amazing man. We literally filmed wherever we went, so the video is totally chilled. We hired this small boat, and almost died because of these waves in the ocean.”

Since his first album ‘Covers’ in 2014, Paul has toured many countries throughout the world, including the USA, the UK, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and Jordan. He has supported many charities and raised awareness for cancer research, and mental health and HIV awareness.
