Paul Middleton releases “Take on Me” cover to promote mental health awareness

Pop musician Paul Middleton has officially released a cover of A-Ha’s classic song, “Take on Me.”

The well-known LGBTQ performer recorded his cover of “Take on Me” to promote mental health awareness after the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many people around the globe, Paul has suffered with mental health issues due to the events that have unfolded and has searched for ways to overcome them.

“I noticed within myself and, I’m sure, as many other people did too, the decline of my own mental health,” Paul said. “The lyrics of the chorus, “Take on me, I’ll be gone, in a day or two,” inspired me to take on those feelings, sort of like confronting myself and challenging myself to rise to the occasion. I felt the song was perfect for the time period.”

Middleton is a long-time mental health advocate. Many of the cover songs he sings relate to personal experiences and stories. The independent artist has not only toured internationally, but has had two number one songs in the LGBTQ music charts. Paul’s cover of “We Found Love” was added to a prestigious Spotify editorial playlist, an achievement that is rare, if not impossible, for an independent artist. The cover was featured next to legendary singers including Whitney Houston and Kygo.

“Lockdown has been tough – it was clear that it wasn’t just me but many around me were going through difficulties with the pandemic,” Paul explained. “This year, I have deliberately made some changes to my life that have included walking and cycling to help with my mental health and it has done wonders.”

There is worry amongst healthcare professionals that the impact of COVID-19 on mental health will cause and even greater problems than the virus itself. Paul’s vocals, in particular, the ballads, have helped relax many of his audiences. In the current time of mental health awareness, Paul’s soothing vocals and sincere vocals are ideal for music listeners.

Music blog ‘The-Further’ said Paul’s version of “Take On Me” ‘takes you on a beautiful music break, effortlessly rocked by addictive vocals and poetic acoustic guitar.’

Paul has toured the world playing major festivals and concerts in the United Kingdom, United States, and Europe. He supports a number of causes and has performed shows to raise money for Cancer Research, HIV charities, and mental health awareness.

Paul’s cover of A-Ha’s “Take on Me” can be found on his official YouTube page. It is taken from ‘Covers 4’ due for release in summer.
