Madonna confirms 40th anniversary Celebration Tour

Madonna is hitting the road later this year for The Celebration Tour.

Rumors had been swirling the last few days after Billboard published an article stating that reliable sources had revealed to them that the megastar would be announcing a forthcoming tour. Speculation then intensified after Madonna wiped her Instagram of all posts, presumably in preparation for the upcoming announcement.

On January 17 she made it official through use of a video that featured Madame X herself along with some famous friends including Diplo, Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Bob The Drag Queen, Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, Meg Stalter, Eric Andre and Amy Schumer playing a spirited game of Truth or Dare.

Alternating between black and white and color, the clip is an obvious and welcomed self-referential nod to the infamous 1991 documentary Truth or Dare where Madonna took us backstage and into her personal life during The Blonde Ambition Tour.

Throughout the 5-minute clip we see Diplo dared to drink a margarita he had dipped his genitals into, Amy Schumer mime how she’d rim her husband, Bob the Drag Queen perform oral sex on an Evian bottle and Madonna tongue kiss Jack Black. The video ends with Amy Schumer daring Madonna to go on a world tour and play her “motherf&#king greatest hits”.

Madonna feigns concern that people might not want to hear 40 years’ worth of her greatest hits and after a mini sing along to “La Isla Bonita” and reassurances from those present that they’d attend the show she said her answer was “F&#k Yeah!” And so, a new era in the icon’s storied career begins.

Produced by Live Nation, the 35-city global tour will kick off in North America on Saturday, July 15th at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC with stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and more before making its way to Europe where she will hit 11 cities throughout the fall, including London, Barcelona, Paris, and Stockholm, among others. The Celebration Tour will wrap in Amsterdam, NL on Friday, December 1st at Ziggo Dome.

Madonna Celebration Tour

The Celebration Tour will take us on Madonna’s artistic journey through four decades and will pay respect to the city of New York where her career in music began. It is promised to offer a one-of-a-kind experience and will feature special guest and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen across all dates on the tour.

“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” said Madonna in a statement.

Legacy members of Madonna’s fan club will get first crack at the tickets with public on sale dates then taking place on January 20 and January 27. No word yet on ticket prices…
