Hot holiday happenings this weekend at Eagle LA

Of all the bear dwellings in Los Angeles, locals and visitors alike know Eagle LA is the one to crawl to for the sexiest views and leather tomfoolery.

Since 2006 they’ve been known for their community support, rockstar staff and anything goes attitude. Not to mention regular gear nights, live music and a clientele as eye-catching as the videos they play.

Though popular year-round, the yuletide sees them serving up a tasty party mix of merriment and naughtiness. Heavy on the nuts!

This weekend the “Dirty Bird” hosts two parties every jolly Santa and eager elf will want to be at.

First up on Friday 16th, it’s Naughty Bear hosted by Bears LA. Celebrate the season with the polar, grizzly and cubby gents who work 365 to promote “camaraderie, community and brotherhood while giving to charitable organizations and encouraging community services.” Be ready for a night of boozy bear cheer and hairy holiday cuddles.

Local favorite DJ Candy provides the beats while L.A. bakeshop Get the Fork Out brings the sweets – it wouldn’t quite be a bear party without something decadent to swallow! If you haven’t yet tried a pop-top cake from Get the Fork Out, put a big red circle on your calendar for 12/16.

Go-go bears, Jell-O shots and the usual furry friskiness will be in full supply courtesy of the group that brings you the annual Mr. Bear LA and Mr. LA Leather Bear title contests. Rumor has it the newly appointed Mr. Bear LA 2023, Marquis the Honey Bear, will be in attendance. A $5 donation at the door goes to support Bears LA and the local charities they sponsor.

Then on Saturday the 17th, un-don your gay apparel at Deck the Balls, a contest that is exactly what it sounds like. Presented by Avatar Club Los Angeles, contestants put the caroled boughs of holly on a far more exciting part of their body as they compete for $150 cash prizes ($100 to the winner and $50 to the runner-up). The brave entrants adorn their bits in bows, blinking lights, and holiday what-have-you before audience applause determines the winners.

You don’t even need to bring your own trimmings—Avatar spares no expense in providing “the highest-quality decorations that the dollar store carries.” The party starts at 9pm and a $7 donation is suggested. Leathermen of all experience levels will be there with gloves, cigars and a twinkle in their eye reminding you that Santa likes to watch.

Founded in 1983, Avatar Club Los Angeles is the oldest gay leather club in the city. The non- profit BDSM education organization teaches safe, sane and consensual BDSM techniques to anyone over 18 interested in learning. Men’s-only hands-on classes are offered on a bi-monthly basis, and the group hosts boot camps, monthly meetings and special events throughout the year, several of which are also at the Eagle.
