Gogo Bear Spotlight: Tucker Starr
The gogo spotlight lands in the Pacific Northwest on the handsome and furry Tucker Starr. Tucker has danced at some of the biggest and most successful bear parties in the US and Canada. Get to know him below.
BWM: Please give us some background on yourself.
Tucker Starr (TS): My stage name and legal name is Tucker Starr. I was born and raised in a very small town called Mio in Northern Michigan. I moved here to Seattle in 2015 and I’ve been a bartender here since. I Love traveling and heading up to the mountains to do some camping and hiking with my 4-year-old K9 daughter named Kylie. I spend most of my free time with her doing that and exploring dog parks around here. When Kylie and I aren’t out and about we are usually cuddled up on the couch watching some TV.
BWM: When did you start gogo dancing and why? Which bear parties do you dance at?
TS: I made my gogo debut in 2019 down in LA for Bearracuda. I have always loved dancing and when I was offered the opportunity I took it. It has helped me so much with my body dysmorphia. Even though I sometimes struggle with feeling good about my body, having the opportunities to dance and the positive feedback I get from people helps me feel sexy and confident. Since I’ve started dancing, I have danced for parties all over the US and in Canada. I have danced for Bearracuda, Lumbertwink, Daddy Issues, Bear Puddle, Megawoof America, FurballNYC, and Beefcake to name a few. Even during the pandemic, I danced for Bearracuda over Zoom.
BWM: Do you have a gogo persona? If so what is it? Do you have a signature move or style?
TS: I wouldn’t say I have a gogo persona, I just listen to the music and shake it to the beats. I do love singing along when a good song comes on, letting my confidence and attitude show on my face. I enjoy the moments where I can give it my all like no one is watching, but also make a point to engage with the community that’s there with me, having a special one-on-one moment with someone on the floor or feeding off the energy of the other dancers.
BWM: Can you tell us a memorable event from one of your gigs?
TS: I have so many memorable moments while dancing. From meeting new sexy boys from out of state to being almost humped off stage by the promoter in a damn bunny suit. (Bearracuda party before Easter Sunday. You would have had to have been there.) Most recently I had the opportunity to be on stage with Trixie Mattel for her Solid Pink Disco tour. All such great memories.
BWM: Do you identify with the bear community? When/ how did you find it?
TS: I would say I identify with the bear community. I’m a pretty big hairy guy. When I came out in 2017 here in Seattle, I found that my favorite bar was Diesel – Seattle’s bear bar. I was asked to bartend the owner’s birthday party once and soon after I was asked to join the team. Only being out for a few months, I would say I dove into the gay scene head first. I wouldn’t change anything looking back.
BWM: What do you like most about nightlife and gogo dancing?
TS: What I like about nightlife, especially out here in Seattle, is all the safe inclusive spaces we have. You have bars with drag shows, dance parties, bars where you can be shirtless (or even less), sports bars, intimate spaces with seating etc.; pretty much whatever vibe you and your crew are feeling for the night is available to you. When I am gogo dancing, I love the fact that everyone feels welcome at the parties. I swear the ladies that show up to the parties love seeing a big boy up on stage shaking it.
BWM: Where can we find you on social media?
TS: You can find me on most platforms @tuckerstarr33
I’m trying to be better at posting on them. You can always find me posting on Instagram though.
You are a fine bear
