There are many new, emerging drag queens this year, but only one can be Drag Queen of the year!
May 26, of the year 2019 may seem like eons ago— But this momentous date marked the birth of an event that would alter the course of Drag herstory and of the world as we know it. It was the birth of the first ever Drag Queen of the Year Pageant Competition Awards Contest Competition!
And now, on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm PT/5:00 pm ET/ 10:00 pm GMT, a new Drag Queen of the Year shall be crowned! In the first-ever competition of its kind, The DQOY Pageant placed Drag inclusivity at the forefront, creating a space that was open to any and all Drag performers— regardless of their anatomy, gender identity, or experience level. The result was a fierce competition that electrified the audience, inspired the world, and broke barriers for all of Drag-kind.
“Lola and I initially set out to do this Pageant as an experiment– What would happen if we held a competition that welcomed all different types of Drag performers, regardless of their gender identity or anatomy or history– all on the same stage”, says Alaska. “The result was way more amazing than we ever could have anticipated, and with the first iteration of the Pageant in 2019 we knew we had birthed something very special.”
And now, flying in the face of a global pandemic, economic meltdown, and catastrophic political landscape, The Drag Queen of the Year Pageant shall carry on— for the first time in an all new digital format via Sessions Live!
The world as we know it came to a halt shortly after the time we announced the 2020 Pageant, and we had to postpone it indefinitely,” says Alaska.
“But luckily, thanks to Sessions Live, we now have the perfect streaming platform to put on a digital version of the Pageant. And at last, we will have the chance to depose Abhora, whose reign as Drag Queen of the Year has gone on far too long, and has brought the world nothing but plague, unrest, and misery.”
Founded by Pageant Director and extra-terrestrial icon of stage and screen Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, and co-founded by Executive Assistant Pageant Director Lola LeCroix, DQOY is teaming up with the groundbreaking streaming platform Sessions Live to launch a digital Pageant Competition that will bring together an audience from around the globe.
Featuring 8 stunning contestants, carefully selected by a mysterious panel of anonymous Drag Elders— this collection of outstanding Drag artists will compete for a chance to win a crown, a sash, a bouquet of very nice flowers, and a prestigious title. Oh, and also $10,000 (via PayPal).

Celebrity judges Nicole Byer, Peppermint, Jiggly Caliente, Vinegar Strokes, Shea Coulee’, Willam and 2019 contestant Aurora Sexton will be tasked with the vital role of judging and scoring the contestants. 2019’s Pageant winner and current reigning queen, Abhora, will be stepping down.
