The new ‘Proud Family’ trailer features beary queer characters!

The Proud Family gets prouder… And shows a little Bear love!

Out Magazine reported that a new trailer for Disney +’s upcoming new series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is released, and the queer love is real!

Last year, we reported that Billy Porter and Zachary Quinto would be joining the cast of The Proud Family reboot as two gay Bears with a daughter played by Keke Palmer. The trailer is giving us our first glimpse of those beary queer characters in action, and we love to see it! The trailer serves us the usual Proud Family shenanigans: An irritable Oscar, family adventures, Penny attempting to have fun while having it destroyed by Oscar, and a Sassy Suga Mama. But these new characters will definitely take the beloved animated series to the next level!

The trailer shows Oscar meeting one of the new characters, Randall Leibovitz-Jenkins (Billy Porter), at a bank. Randall tells Oscar, “We brothers stick together,” and introduces him to his large, muscly husband Barry (Zachary Quinto). It then shows Randall at a party with Oscar as he encourages him to “look at the world through Penny’s eyes.”

It seems like these new characters are going to become close friends of the family in some way. Randall seems to be giving fatherly advice to Oscar, and opening his eyes in some very transformative ways. We then see Randall and Barry dancing with the family, and we know that anyone who dances with the Proud Family is probably also family!

The reboot will also feature the voice talents of other notable queer entertainers, such as EJ Johnson, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Jane Lynch, Lena Waithe, and a whole lot more. According to Out Magazine, EJ Johnson will also be playing a queer character named Michael Collins. Michael is described as a “nonconforming trendsetter” who “serves fierce looks at school.”

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will debut February 23rd on Disney+!
