Stan Goes to Camp!
I can’t believe it’s August already! Its balls sticking to your thighs type of weather, which is why I am perfectly happy hiding indoors catching up on my horror viewing.
Of course I occasionally miss seeing the bears at the campgrounds so when the craving hits I pop in one of these camp themed movies to tide me over. Here are my personal top 5 faves:
5. Summer Camp (2016)
Not your typical summer camp slasher. A horrific rage inducing sickness infiltrates a Spanish summer camp staffed by American counselors. If you’re in the mood for something a little different check this one out. Watch here!
4. You Might Be the Killer (2018)
A modern deconstructed take on the old camp slasher movie stories and tropes. This one stars Alyson Hannigan of ‘Buffy’ fame and they completely lean into her Willow roots (Ha! See what I did there! Roots- like the tree!). Watch Here!
3. The Burning (1981)
Based on the legend of Cropsey, a summer camp caretaker comes back for bloody revenge after a prank gone horribly wrong. Starring a young Jason Alexander with effects by the master, Tom Savini. Watch Here!
2. Bloody Bloody Bible Camp (2012)
Sister Mary Chopper is committed to brutally punishing these campers for their sins. This is NOT a politically correct movie. The humor leans heavily into humor based on religious/ sexual stereotypes in order to showcase how terrible these people are.
I find it hilarious, but some may be offended. That being said, this one stars Reggie Bannister of ‘Phantasm’ fame and Ron Jeremy as Jesus Christ; that in and of itself should tell you what you are in for. Watch Here!
1. Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Take a trip to Camp Arawak with cousins Angela Baker and Ricky Thomas where one by one their fellow campers are brutally killed. With a shock ending for the ages this one is controversial in the LGBTQ+ community for its depiction of queerness. Watch Here!
Happy Camping!! And remember when pitching your tent make sure to anchor your rod into the tightest hole you can find. Till next time! –
