Scott Free Returns with “Songs to Fight Oppression”

Scott Free released his sing-along social justice album “Songs To Fight Oppression” on January 2nd, 2024

Bear musician Scott Free has released his sing-along, folk and multi-genre social justice album ‘Songs To Fight Oppression’, featuring his anthem of inclusion ‘Welcome Here’, and the uplifting and powerful “Uprising’, with Nigerian vocalist Agosa. ‘Songs To Fight Oppression’ is a 12-track album of instant classic protest songs, providing a powerful voice for change. Scott Free has constructed a beautiful array of sing-along empowerment songs to inspire us all. Covering many of the issues of our time, ‘Songs To Fight Oppression’ takes on subjects such as the environment, peace activism, healthcare, living wages, and LGBT rights. In the Pete Seeger tradition, these songs are meant to be sung in groups at rallies, protests, social justice, and folk music gatherings. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Scott Free, this album is a wonderful collection of songs that makes protesting fun. Each song has a concise, tight construction with memorable melodies, or instantly recognizable chants. Scott’s songs are captivating, with modern pop sensibilities, yet fully grounded in the tradition of protest folk music. They show to us how powerful music can be, and the importance it plays in all of our lives.

About Scott Free

Scott has released five previous solo albums, and an LGBT family album by his group The Diesel Tykes. He has released two original cast albums of his musicals, Zombie Bathhouse and Witches Among Us, and will soon release his third, for his musical House Musical. Scott is the host and curator of Bear All, the bear singer/songwriter series at Touche in Chicago. Scott was a producer in the original House Music scene in Chicago, was part of the 90’s Chicago queercore scene, and had a rap video on BET. He produced the annual Queer Is Folk/Alt Q Folk Festival at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago from 2000 to 2012. He also produced the LGBT music and spoken word performance series Homolatte for 20 years in Chicago. He runs an indie queer radio station called AltQ Radio on Live365.
