Reykjavik Bear is still on for September!

The party is still on in Reykjavik!

Iceland’s largest annual Bear event, Reykjavik Bear, is still on for next month! Reykjavik Bear will happen from September 2 through the 5.

Full Event Passes and Party Passes are now on sale. Enjoy three days of parties, two tours to see Iceland’s most popular natural attractions, a farewell brunch and plenty of friendly bear hugs!

Mingle with the bears at the Opening Party on September 2, where you will get to grab a drink and meet bears from around the world to get your party group going! While you’re there, grab your goodie bag, your event pass and give a Covid friendly elbow bump to all the local bears organizing the event!

Experience several of the many impressive things Icelandic nature has to offer with the full-day Golden Circle Tour on September 3, then have a cocktail or two during the evening with the Friday Chill Party. DJ Mighty bear will be making sure the music vibes are just right!

After a night of partying it’s always a good idea to soak up and relax with the Blue Lagoon Tour on September 4, then enjoy the RVKBear Main Party with DJ Kris from the UK and local radio DJ Bear celebrity Siggi Gunnars getting the night underway! Rumor has it that there might even be a drag show!

After the Main Party is over, get a belly full of some nice food at the Farewell Brunch on September 5. Meet and chat with more local bears and start making plans to come to RVKBear next year!

COVID-19 Information

Iceland has done well in its efforts to fight the pandemic. Currently, over 90% of the population aged 16 and over have been fully vaccinated.

In the second half of July, the Delta variant of the virus made it to Iceland and a new wave started. The Icelandic government implemented new restrictions that are still in place and are not expected to be lifted until sometime after Reykjavik Bear.

Luckily, the restrictions do not affect Reykjavik Bear too harshly. The biggest limitation is the restriction on bars and venues that limits opening hours, with closing required at 11:00 p.m. (the last guests required to leave before midnight) and the total number of guests at a time capped at 100.

Furthermore, some of the other restrictions include:

  • A general gathering ban of no more than 200 people.
  • Masks are required in many indoor spaces.
  • People will be required to maintain a distance of one metre between one another.
  • Opening hours for restaurants, clubs and pubs will have to end at 23:00, with the last person required to leave before midnight.
  • Pools and gyms will be limited to 75% of their maximum capacity.

Additionally, there are restrictions at the border that require travelers, even vaccinated people, to have a PCR test before travel and possibly more tests on arrival. Unvaccinated travelers can expect to be mandated to go into a five day quarantine at a designated quarantine hotel. Keep checking covid.is, the official Covid-19 information page from the government of Iceland.

For further information on travel restrictions to Iceland, please refer to covid.is. Please check the site often since travel restrictions and covid related rules have changed frequently.
