Lego to release LGBTQ+-themed ‘Everyone Is Awesome’ set for Pride month

This Pride month, Lego is celebrating everyone, and we love to see it!

Lego has announced that it is launching an LGBTQ+ themed set titled “Everyone Is Awesome” just ahead of Pride month, according to The Independent

The set includes 346 pieces with 11 monochrome minifigures, and goes on sale on June 1. No specific gender has been assigned to any of the figurines, since they are specifically intended to “express individuality, while remaining ambiguous”. The only exception is a purple drag queen character.

The designer of the set, Matthew Ashton, stated that the set will include all the colors of the rainbow flag, including the pale blue, white and pink representing the trans community, and black and brown, which acknowledge the diversity of skin tones and ethnic backgrounds within the LGBTQ+ community.

Ashton told The Guardian that he initially made the set for his personal office desk because he wanted to make his new office space “feel like home with something that reflected me and the LGBTQ+ community I’m so proud to be a part of.” But the set started to catch the attention of others, and they loved it! He then decided to make it an actual set for sale.

The set has already become a hit with the rest of LGBTQ+ community, and Twitter has exploded with excitement about the Pride set.

This set marks the first time that Lego has loudly proclaimed the representation of LGBTQ+ people in any of their Lego iterations. The closest they have gotten previously have included a small rainbow flag in a model of London’s Trafalgar Square, as well as interchangeable bride and groom heads so Lego fans can create same gender marriages.

“Growing up as an LGBTQ+ kid, the message I always got was that somehow I was ‘wrong’. I wish I’d seen an inclusive statement that said ‘everyone is awesome’,” Ashton said in a statement.

He continued: “I am fortunate to be a part of a proud, supportive and passionate community of colleagues and fans. We share love for creativity and self-expression through LEGO bricks and this set is a way to show my gratitude for all the love and inspiration that is constantly shared.”
