Last Call: 2024 Toyota bZ4X is an affable electric car

Reviews are mixed on the 2024 Toyota bZ4X, the only all-electric offering from Toyota.

Introduced for the 2023 model year, it’s similar to the Toyota RAV4 (which is available as a plug-in hybrid) and is almost identical to the Subaru Solterra. The bZ4X (a quirky name at best) is a small to midland SUV with decent interior space, provided bodies and purchases don’t get too big.

Starting at $43K US, it’s pricier than most similar EVs. Range is about 250 miles on a single charge, which is okay.

Driving is similar to a gas-powered car, and for me, that is a plus.  There is no bumper-car feel when making the B-Z go.  You won’t win any contests with this, nor do you want to go on long road trips often.

Tech-wise, Toyota really is a standout. Performing basic functions, like synching your phone or adjusting the temperature, is a breeze. There are still many physical buttons and knobs on the center console, which means you don’t have to struggle with voice commands and other 21st Century protocols just so you can keep your feet warm and your mood music stable.

Like most reviewers, I too have mixed feelings on this one.  I suggest you try it out first before you start planning for how you will decorate it for Pride.

If your heart is set on an electric vehicle for the holidays, you may also want to checkout the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 or even the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which are all similar to the bZ4X.

This holiday season, remember to take care of yourself.  We are constantly bombarded with messages about how we need to take care of others and that we must sacrifice to make the world a better place.

All (mostly) good advice, but if you are not taking care of yourself, simply put, you cannot effectively take care of anyone else, including those you love.

Have that glass of wine at home.  Go for a drive in nature.  Take that Bear bubble bath.  Get a pedicure.

We will need you in all your splendor and strength as we go towards the future.
