Kyle Motsinger’s latest album Take It Back comes out May 15th!

In Take it Back, singer songwriter Kyle Motsinger invites you to accompany him on his journey from self-doubt to confidence while navigating through dark and troubled times.

Motsinger was raised in a small town near Peoria, Illinois. “I grew up watching movie musicals and listening to 80s and 90s pop/rock music,” he remembers. “When you listen to my songs you’ll hear all of my influences!”

He participated in school productions and community theatre as a youth and in college, he earned a BFA in
musical theatre at Western Illinois University. He then moved to NYC where he performed in the Off Broadway production of Fancy Nancy The Musical, a show based off the popular children’s books. Motsinger originated the role of Lionel who performs as a rapping shark and can be heard on the show’s cast album. “I am the OG baby shark,” he laughs.

While performing, he continued writing his own music and it eventually took the focus of his creativity. Kyle Motsinger has released two full-length albums, Far Away and Any Way I Want It To. He’s also released many singles including “Dark Shadows”, based on the gothic 60s series and film by Tim Burton.

The music video for the song starred Kathryn Leigh Scott from the series and it premiered to much fan acclaim at the Dark Shadows convention in Los Angeles. BuzzMusic LA recently called Kyle an artist that “transcends the barriers of genre and style, showcasing versatility and undeniable talent” and in their review of his song “Bad Years” they described it as a “masterpiece that defies categorization.”

As Kyle Motsinger looks ahead to his 40th birthday in December he reflects on how far he’s come. “The life I have chosen hasn’t been an easy one but I wouldn’t change it,” Kyle Motsinger explains. He says he has matured through trial, both as a person and an artist, and believes that it shows in his music. “I think Take It Back is the most honest album I’ve written so far. I’m proud of it and I really believe in it. I think people will find it relatable and exciting!”

“After my second album debuted in 2020 I felt a little lost,” he admits. “I spent a lot of time and money making music and I was struggling to be heard. I decided to write about all my frustrations with creating art in a post-pandemic world.”

Even though the album is about his personal experiences he feels it will be relevant to everyone. “No matter what you do in life you can feel like you’re an imposter. I wanted to work out my insecurities through these songs and I hope listening to them will help others vanquish their own demons and reclaim their power.”

Take it Back is produced by Motsinger and engineered, mixed, and mastered by MP Kuo. (2026 Grammy- nominated Requiem of Light) The album features Motsinger on lead vocals, piano and synth. NY Drama Desk nominee Mark Hartman provides additional piano and string arrangements.

The core band features in-demand NYC musicians Chris Bonner on bass and Zachary Eldridge on drums. Adam Stoler (Come From Away Broadway/Tour) provides guitars. Chris Commisso adds additional synth on several songs and Mike Snow plays brass on the opening track. Broadway pit players make up the string section including Janey Choi, Conrad Harris, Mark Kosmala, and Joel Lambdin. Yoed Nir (Regina Spektor, Judy Collins, Netflix’s Bridgerton) arranged and performed cellos on the title track. Trisha Jeffrey (Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors) and Jason Pintar (The Sound of Music International Tour) sing backups on “Bad Years,” the first single from the album. Fellow songwriter Corey TuT recorded electric drums for “Family.”

Kyle Motsinger’s new album Take it Back will be available on Apple Music, Spotify and all digital platforms on May 15th.
