Hip-Hop artist Eddie Wayne chats about his debut EP, ‘From YBOR with Love’

After dropping his Reggae-infused Trap track “Instant Connection” earlier this year, Texas-born, NYC-based artist Eddie Wayne released his highly anticipated EP From YBOR with Love

As the “unexpected, real, and true angelic demon from the Bayou”, Texas-born Eddie Wayne has definitely been making a name for himself on the Hip-Hop scene. The artist has successfully merged southern and East Coast Hip-Hop flavors together in a way that makes for one tasty music gumbo.

Recorded mostly during the pandemic, his seven-track debut EP, From YBOR with Love, is full of bops from start to finish! We had a chat with Eddie Wayne to discuss his latest project, and the journey that he went on to find his sound.

Kyle Jackson: What has the journey been like leading up to this release?

Eddie Wayne: I have been on a journey for a while trying to find a sound that was honest to me and who I am as an artist. I am at that point now where I’m ready to share what I created. I have made hella songs but never have put out a project that I was proud of until now.

Hopefully, everyone else will fuck with what I’ve put together as well. Being a Texas-born dude raised in a hyper masculine environment caused me to be a late bloomer in a lot of aspects, but I am ready for everything that is about to come — and y’all should be too.

KJ: So, is this your first EP?

EW: Yes, this is my first EP release and a muhfuckah is excited as fuck, and nervous at the same time. (laughs)

But, open them ears and enjoy the vibe!

KJ: Did the pandemic affect your music or creative process in any way?

EW: During the pandemic, I took some time out to make sure that I was productive, and this project is a result of that. I literally went through a rollercoaster of emotions during that muhfuckah, and here she is — good, bad or indifferent. I tried to show some versatility when it comes to my music as well.

KJ: What’s the story behind the title?

EW: I spent most of my time during the pandemic in Tampa, Florida recording this project. In that time, I fell in love with Ybor City, which is a dope ass district in Tampa where I recorded. This is my postcard to let y’all know what ya boy was up to.

KJ: So, is the title also a bit of a play on words with a double meaning? — “Ybor” also equals “Ya Boy”?

EW: It’s not really a play on words, but that’s what the title is, though — Because it is coming from “Ya’ Boy”, ya’ dig? (laughs)

KJ: What’s next for Eddie Wayne?

EW: Well, after the release of this project, I still have more music already in the chamber! Be on the lookout for lots of visuals coming at you soon, as well.
