Heklina Needs Justice: An Angry Drag Show

To steal a line from the movie Network, we’re as mad as hell and we’re not going to take this anymore.

This is truly the sentiment and feeling behind Justice 4 Heklina: Two Angry Drag Shows to be held in San Francisco at the Stud and then the Oasis on March 31 with protests simultaneously planned in London.

This isn’t just an evening of drag – it’s a movement and a march. The evening starts at the Stud, then there’s a march with signage to the Oasis.

All of this stems from the lack of answers and investigations from the London police about the death of legendary drag superstar Heklina, who died in London April 3, 2023 and her cause of death was pending for almost the entire time.

Heklina’s best friends Peaches Christ and Nancy French have been given the runaround for these two years and it seems, thanks to their public pressuring, answers might have been found.

According to a recent post by French, five members of the London Police came to California and shared that it was drug-related. As to whether Heklina was alone or not, it is still unclear.  But it seems more of a relapse for Heklina as she has, in the past, relapsed on drugs while traveling or on the road.

But why have French and Christ been ignored all of this time? Why did recently they uncover camera footage of perhaps people leaving the building and it wasn’t presented earlier. Both have spent so much time trying to get answers and mostly ignored until they started making their disdain public.

Whatever the final answer is, to keep Heklina’s family and friends in the dark for all of these years is unforgivable. And, thus, many of her Bay Area friends and supporters will take to the streets and share their outrage.

Joshua Grannell aka Peaches Christ will be joining in the protest – but from London, supporters and protesters are requested to meet in London at Big Ben at 10am on March 31 (at Westminster Bridge in front of Parliament Building) and march 0.9 miles along the Embankment to the Met Police HQs where there will be speeches and peaceful protest. Dispersing be 12 noon. Placards encouraged! If you choose to bring placards, they must not be larger than 100 cm x 50 cm.

This protest isn’t limited to the London’s police and their treatment to this case. It also includes and is aimed at President Donald Trump’s executive orders and his misuse of authority in the actions his homophobia has done and is doing to the gay and trans community.

Further, this event, which is free, will also celebrate the life of Heklina and queer artistry.
