Of course George Michael would go on to find massive success as a solo pop star after his time in WHAM!. He sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide, had 13 number one songs on the UK singles chart and 10 number one songs on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was also a sex symbol lusted after by men and women alike with his dark good looks, beard and furry chest. In 1998 the superstar was forced out of the closet thanks to a public lewdness arrest in a men’s restroom in Los Angeles. And while the charge may have been scandalous at the time and a source of embarrassment to him on account of the circumstances, it also cemented him in as a gay icon.
George surpassed the scandal and went on to continue to top the music charts and embark on massively successful tours until his untimely death in 2016. He remains beloved and mourned for by his devoted fanbase.
WHAM! will debut July 5th only on Netflix.
