A Chat with Producer Blackmajic about Music, Furries, and More!

Blackmajic chats with us about how he got started producing music, his label MAJIC Records, and identifying as a furry, bear, and pup all at the same time!

Blackmajic (he/him, Majic for short) is a 28 year old Tri-State Area based producer, engineer and artist who specializes in many different styles of production and wants to revolutionize and be the sound of the future of music especially with hip hop. He is a bear, pup, and furry that’s also very interested in the leather scene.

Majic has been a music producer for over 10+ years starting when he was 14. He has been on a more focused mission after establishing the group and multimedia collective MAJIC Records (@majicrec.bsky.social), building with very close friends and other artists alike to push the boundaries of where hip hop would be and represent in the future. Majic has worked many musicians including Jaylaflame, Reg Mason, $Leazy Ez, Bryce Quartz, YawnyBlew, Fly to the Night, Feauxseven and many more.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Blackmajic on my own music, and connecting him with other musician friends too. Recently, he made a remix for YawnyBlew, Mike Brown, and 3DDI3 WAYN3 for their track “This Shit Hard” and turned it into a NY drill masterpiece. Last year, I was looking for people to remix some of the songs on my debut studio EP “The Sextape” and joked in a tweet that I would die for a niche sub-genre of remixes called pluggnb. Within two hours, I get a DM from Blackmajic with an MP3 file where he did exactly that. I loved it, sent him my stems, and within a day or two he sent me back three mastered remixes with different unique sounds that arguably made my songs better than the original.

Blackmajic is quick, he’s precise, he’s talented, and extremely skilled as a producer. I’ve listened to dozens of songs he’s produced for artists on his label and beyond, and every single track is a perfect listen no matter what style it is.

I had the chance to speak with him about how he got started in producing, the furry community, and more, check that out below!

Bryce Quartz: Hey there, Majic! Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today! How have you been doing lately?

Blackmajic: 2025 has been a struggle not going to lie but overall, making the most out of things however I can, putting a lot of good energy out there for others and constantly creating.

Bryce Quartz: Let’s jump right into the good stuff. Tell me a bit about how long you’ve been producing music and what that journey has been like over the years?

Blackmajic: I have been producing for well over 10 years now. I started playing around with FL Studio in highschool then got more serious with things towards the end of highschool and college. I was really pretty stubborn because my main goal as a producer was to have a group and to have artists id build with for life so I never was big on joining any like random collectives that were just popping and not really lasting or more personal with each other.

Eventually out of that Jaylaflame (jaylaflame.bsky.social) who was already a childhood friend and me connected on building and then Fly to the Night came into the picture through me being a troll on Twitter. Fly to The Night (flytothenight.bsky.social) was DJing at events in Seattle at the time and was an active furry. I always was interested in the furry fandom at the time too but never really connected heavily with one until we met her. The official come together in person where Me, Jaylaflame (jaylaflame.bsky.social), Fly to The Night (flytothenight.bsky.social), Hidama, Kito (thekitodiet.bsky.social) and Rose happened at MFF 2021 and the rest has been an ongoing story since.

Bryce Quartz: We’ve chatted before and have a lot of the same music taste, and I was pleasantly surprised when you told me about all the different musicians and producers whose sound has inspired you over the years because many of them have inspired me too! Can you share with the readers what some of your musical inspirations are?

Blackmajic: My music from the beginning was very jazz and house ruined and it was because the melodies use to mesmerize and amaze me. What got me into hip hop though was Kanye, The Neptunes and Nas. Over time those influences led my ear into loving Tyler, The Creator’s music and production. The interesting stuff comes here though because most people I feel lose the sound connection at this point. Lordfubu, Icytwat, Rezz, Ethereal and Oscar100 mixed with everything else before is like the main influence on what sonic choices I make with my own style. Overall, my style is still my own. Despite my influences I feel like I generally have a character and like identity behind everything I make.

Bryce Quartz: For those that have never heard a track produced for you, what would you describe the general audio aesthetic to an instrumental you’ve created?

Blackmajic: It’s Ambient, futuristic, melodic, gritty, beautiful, spacey, euphoric, glitchy. It’s a lot!!! What I named though is generally what I want to encompass in everything I produce. I make music that is for the future and you are ahead of you are tapped in and love the sound and vision.

Bryce Quartz: You started a label called MAJIC Records and work with so many amazing musicians, I’m a bit obsessed with your production for them and their individual sounds as well. Can you share a little bit about the label, why you started it, and some of the cool things you’ve done over the years with it?

Blackmajic: So like I mentioned before MAJIC Records (@majicrec.bsky.social) was officially in person founded at MFF 2021 (Midwest Furfest 2021). That year in the summer too Me and Jaylaflame won a song award contest in protest towards the riots that happened after George Floyd’s death. We Donated $2000 to the NAACP with that. Continuing into 2022 we conceptualized a created the Digital Revolution Festival and had the very first one at FWA 22 (Furry Weekend Atlanta 2022) we gather the best furry musicians, vocalists and DJs at the event to show off what the community has to offer and it’s all BIPOC led. BIPOC and queer/kink focused parties are also included in the weekend as a celebration for being proud to just be us. I’m still working on building with the artists in my group and other in adjacent groups like Don’t Drown (dontdrownfurs.bsky.social) and Thrive or Die (thriveordienow.bsky.social) and overall can’t wait to see what everything culminated into when everything meshes together and constantly keeps becoming stronger.

Bryce Quartz: On the topic of the furry community, I want to talk about how it somewhat intertwines within the bear community. Many bears identify as furries and vice versa, but there’s this weird sense of stigma around the furry community. Why should people keep an open mind about furries and what brought you into that space personally?

Blackmajic: I identify as a bear, pup, furry, and I also really love the leather scene as well. I get the negative aspects from furry may come from like puriteen furries heckling puphoods or the open sexual nature of like the leather, bear and pup scenes but from those individuals that get the reasons why we shouldn’t repress our individuality, body positivity, sexual expression, and kinky weird sides that makes us unique individuals that connect with each other, we know better. Keep being you in the best ways possible!!! If you aren’t hurting nobody then so be it. Funny enough the bear, leather and pup communities would fit right into so many furry spaces. A lot of the furries love those communities and it’s very much incorporated into folks fursonas or art.

Bryce Quartz: Let’s take things to a bit on the lighter side topic wise, tell us about one of your favorite moments over the years, whether it be at a show or in the studio. Give us the tea!

Blackmajic: From this year id start with FWA being just an absolutely great time. Always love linking up with the family and homies in ATL. Digifest was such a great experience there and just gives me that energy to build it more. ANE (Anthro New England) was a vibe and vibing out with a mentor and great homie NONSTOPPUP (nonstoppup.bsky.social) on the final night until sunrise was just a fantastic time to end the con.

Shout-out to homies for a lot this year honestly too: DJ Hypofox (hypofox.bsky.social), Tailspvn (tailspvn.bsky.social), Draxus (draxus.bsky.social), Cade (samoyote.bsky.social), Chrys (itschrysolite.bsky.social), Micks (micks.bsky.social), Jatt (nonbineyoiney.bsky.social). I love y’all lots.

Bryce Quartz: This has been one of my favorite questions to ask lately, especially because I’m a big boy who loves food! What is your go-to favorite meal? I also want to know if you have any food recommendations. Lay it on us!

Blackmajic: Soul food, hibachi, hot pot and Korean BBQ, Halal platters, pizza, Italian hotdogs, bacon egg n cheese, taylor ham n cheese… Want me to continue? this list will go on forever.

Bryce Quartz: Well thanks for that, now I’m hungry! Back to the music, what can we expect next from you as a producer, and do you have any events coming up you’d like to promote?

Blackmajic: Expect a lot more singles coming from Jaylaflame (jaylaflame.bsky.social), it’s only just heating up. Working on more with $leazy Ez (fendihooskie.bsky.social) too. I’m going to get stuff in with the homies at Thrive or Die (thriveordienow.bsky.social) in due time. Hidama will come back with a unique RnB sound. Me and Fly to The Night (flytothenight.bsky.social) got ideas in the works. Me and Bryce Quartz are cooking too! In short, stay tuned for new music.

Events wise, MAJIC Records is Guest of Honor at Furrydelphia so if you’re in the Tri-State Area, come through and turn up with us. It will be a banger. Expect more things coming to the Boston area as well.

Bryce Quartz: Super excited to work with you on several new things, thanks for the mention! There might be somebody reading this right now who’s been wanting to start producing music or maybe they started recently. Do you have any words of advice for them?

Blackmajic: If you haven’t started yet, just do it and just constantly study up on how to constantly get better. You will learn a lot with music along the way, make those mistakes and just feel the music while learning how to make your sound.

Bryce Quartz: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me, Majic! Is there anything else you’d like to leave with our readers today?

Blackmajic: Rub a belly for me! Get hot before Furrydelphia and Megaplex, then stay hot for the fall. Stream Jaylaflame, $leazy Ez, and Fly to The Night!
