Bergo Hu$ky is the Bear artist you should know about right now

Bergo Hu$ky is one artist that should be on everyone’s radar if he isn’t already!

Legendary LGBTQ+ Hip Hop artist, songwriter, arranger Bergo Hu$ky was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC. Coming from a huge family, music was always a part of life. Before his mothers untimely death, he began developing his ear under her album collection which included Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Micheal Jackson, Angela Winbush, Luther Vandross, and many more.

After years of developing, writing, and arranging for other artists, Bergo was convinced by his niece, affectionately called Yummy, to come out of retirement and once again pursue a solo career.

Within a year, Bergo has accumulated more than 1 million views combined, garnered interest from multiple labels, and even made the popular blog Shaderoom’s 2022 Artist Up Next. With his homegrown around-the-way appeal and all eyes on him, Bergo is in no rush to slow down and is taking the industry by storm.

His TikTok alone has over 25k followers and over 140k likes, and is currently sitting at around 8.6k monthly listeners on Spotify alone. It is very clear to us and the industry that Bergo Hu$ky is a force to be reckoned with and is here to stay!

His music video for his hit single  “Have A Seat” is nothing short of iconic. Not only does Bergo slide across the instrumental like a pro rapper, he serves unforgettable looks in the video throughout the whole production. One of my favorite looks from him is where he’s wearing a sweatshirt with Marsha P. Johnson across the front, and how could we not love his shirtless look with a chain and a fur coat?! Be sure to check out the music video below!

I recently had a chat with Bergo. Check out our conversation below!

Bryce Quartz: When did you first start making music?

Bergo Hu$ky: I began writing after my mother passed away when I was 6 years old. Around age 11, thanks to my grandmother, I began playing trombone and later on adopted the trumpet and euphonium learning how to also read treble clef.

During high school I started writing instrumental arrangements all while still keeping my poetry and rap to myself. Around age 14 or so, my cousin Destiny found my notebooks and folders full of my writings and told me that I should really push to do something with it. The rest is kinda history.

BQ: How would you describe the style of music that you make?

BH: Avant garde/abstract expressionism and ghetto fabulous. I make music for the “around the way” type of person — the family guy. The everyday people who are just trying to have some kind of enjoyment in this stressful world. The ones who weren’t accepted because they walked or talked a different way, or because they don’t have the perfect body. The underdog.

BQ: What was it like having your music video go viral on Tik Tok and YouTube last year, and how has it elevated yourself and your platform?

BH: Well, I am definitely being recognized more now, which is a little weird at times but it has all been love. So many doors have opened that I never imagined. Doing this for 20 plus years has definitely not been easy, so to see all of my work come to fruition is no short of amazing. I cannot really speak too much on certain ventures at the moment, but there are plenty of shows and big things coming in the very short future.

BQ: What was your favorite part about making that music video?

BH: My favorite part of every video is always my framily. My best friends and family have been through every step of this process and to be privileged to do this with them on my side has been EVERYTHING.

Also the fact that I can just be myself. I don’t have to have the latest labels or fanciest jewels to make an impact or for my talent to be noticed. Getting to do this and be myself is definitely one of the best things about being Bergo.

BQ: Are you working on any unreleased projects or singles right now?

BH: ABSOLUTELY!! I chose to postpone the project when deals started coming in. So now, we are just working towards polishing and creating more content for the supporters. For some, I know the decision has been questionable but from a business perspective it makes the most sense. I have a phenomenal product and it deserves all the major light and shine that’s coming in the future.

BQ: What other artists are you currently listening to?

BH: To be honest, when I am in creative mode, I don’t really listen to other artists like that. I’m very strict when it comes to protecting my ear and guarding my sound. I always wanna make sure that I approach music from an unbiased stance. So, it is imperative I keep my ear filtered of today’s sound.

But when I am relaxed and vibing, I am an R&B type of guy. Anita, Angie Stone, Dave Hollister, Mint Condition, Mariah, Toni, Janet, Beyonce, Luther, etc are always in rotation. I am always studying song structure. As I’ve stated many times, Mariah is one of the most phenomenal writers of our time. Janet’s harmonies and approach are impeccable. But as of lately, I’ve been immersed in Bergo and making sure I give my supporters an awesome product.

BQ: Thank you for taking the time to answer those questions for us, Bergo!
