Bear World Magazine: What can you tell us about the song?
Michael Van London: I take honor in saying that this song might be the first Christmas song that talks about getting stoned when your family inevitability irritates you.
David Johnson: This song is about disenchantment with the holiday when time has changed family relationships and dynamics.
BWM: Are you single, partnered or dating anyone?
MVL: Single
DJ: Single
BWM: What is something physical you need in a guy, and what is something non-physical?
MVL: I like it when guys have a sense of humor, I also like when they can fix things. Handiness is so attractive to me.
DJ: I do prefer a stockier build on a guy, and I definitely need patience and empathy.
BWM: What’s a red flag for you?
MVL: Having me pay your way every time.
DJ: Controlling behavior.
BWM: If you could make everyone reading this listen to one album all the way through—other than a Scarlet Coast album—what would that be and why?
MVL: Folklore by Taylor Swift converted me from fan to cult follower. I think that’s about the highest compliment you can give a songwriter.
DJ: How We Quit the Forest by Rasputina is a great record. It’s got elements of classical cello mixed with rock that creates an original sound. The lyrics are very unique and make for interesting stories. I appreciate the moments of humor and wit among the other more serious tracks.
BWM: What does The Scarlet Coast have planned after the holidays?
MVL: Some solo albums and then a new album for the band sometime in 2022.
DJ: I think The Scarlet Coast will be working on our solo projects while continuing to write for the next band album. My next record is tentatively titled How Beautiful You Are.
