Organisations
The Harbour City Bears

The Harbour City Bears (HCB) are the largest NSW (and largest Southern Hemisphere) bear social community group for hairy, gay men, their friends and their admirers. They meet every Friday at Oxford Hotel (134 Oxford St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010) from 7:00pm to 11:00pm, and every Sunday at the Townie (326 King St, Newtown NSW 2042) from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The HCB organises various events, like Bear Pit (quarterly dance party), Bear Bowls (lawn bowls), Woof in the Woods (cabin trip), Press Paws Table Tops (board games), and other events.
The HCB have two major events includes: Bear Essentials festival to coincide with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (and participate in the parade) in February/March every year, and Bear Pride Week that hosts a series of fun events during late August every year (and it also includes hosting the Mr Harbour City Bears competition).

The Oxford Hotel is a queer and bear friendly venue, that offers four distinct spaces, Polo Lounge, Ginger’s, Oxford Bar (with bistro and large terrace), and Oxford Underground. You will see the Harbour City Bears organise events here, like Furry Fridays (every Friday at 7pm), Mardi Gras and Bear Pride Week. You can also book a special event in one of the spaces for any special event, just ask the friendly staff or any HCB committee member.

The Townie

The Town Hall Hotel Newtown, is nicknamed “The Townie”, and it is a stylish and vibrant venue that blends historic charm with modern comfort. The Sydney Sauna

Located right on Oxford Street, the Sydney Sauna (formerly Kingsteam) is a discreet and safe sex on premises venue with lube and rubbers aplenty and some extra amenities including a gym, snack bar, computer access and private rooms. Open 7 days a week, this one is for gay and bisexual men. The joint’s been going since the ’70s but has had extensive upgrades in recent years. There are two levels worth of saunas, cinema rooms, spas and themed rooms for all sorts of mischief-making.

Sydney Bear Walking Group

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG)

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is an LGBTQIA+ not-for-profit member-based organisation that produces the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival and several other events and supportive initiatives throughout the year. SGLMG was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQIA+ rights in a time of widespread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination. Year-round, we also develop initiatives that celebrate our LGBTQIA+ identity, champion creative expression, challenge injustice, and elevate diverse voices. We proudly provide a platform for our communities to share with the world.
Mardi Gras occurs annually from mid-February and early March. – The Harbour City have a parade entry every year with Mardi Gras, so get in it!
