Actor Kal Penn has come out of the Bear cave!
By now everyone must have heard that bearded hunk Kal Penn recently came out! The actor who is known for his roles in the film series Harold and Kumar and the hit TV drama House, announced during an interview with People Magazine that he discovered his sexuality “relatively late in life” while discussing his new memoir You Can’t Be Serious.
But, wait! Not so fast, Bears! Before you go shooting your shot in his DMs, the actor and former White House staff member for the Obama administration is also engaged to his partner of 11 years, who he met while living in Washington, DC.
“There’s no timeline on this stuff,” said Penn. “People figure their shit out at different times in their lives, so I’m glad I did when I did.”
The actor also dicussed telling friends and family about the relationship for the first time. “I know this sounds jokey, but it’s true,” he recalls.
“When you’ve already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy. They’re just like, ‘Yeah, OK.’ I felt very supported by everyone. That’s a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that and so I definitely feel very fortunate.”
Kal Penn living his truth, and we love to see it! We hope he knows that he has officially been adopted by the Bear community. GRRR!
Kal Penn’s memoir You Can’t Be Serious is out November 2nd.
Good for him but he should have came out decades or years ago. I wonder if NPH has had him when they were in Harold and Kumar? Or did Barry O hit it?
It’s attitudes like yours that probably keep people from coming out: that decision is entirely theirs. When you say stuff like “I wonder if NPH has had him” and “did Barry O hit it,” it clearly indicates that you only think of coming out as being about sex (which here, in your words, is really conquest) rather than self-affirmation.
