If you like big and powerful and don’t care for today’s gasoline prices, wait till you see the 2026 GMC Sierra EV, an all-electric truck that has more going for it than just a commanding presence.
Seven feet wide. 19 ½ feet long. Up to 6 ½ feet tall. And in many cases, it can tip the scales at 9,00 pounds. Talk about dream date for chasers.
My first thought is how this would be a great truck for fleet managers to consider, given the current price of gasoline. I am not sure about the average Joe having one of these for his everyday ride unless there is a business need for this hulking mammoth……
U.S. News and World Report ranks this year’s Sierra EV as its top pick in the Electric Pickup Truck category. Citing its “major towing and hauling ability with strong acceleration,” the women and men of U.S News felt this EV truck was a winner in so many ways, despite some serious downsides, many of them related to just being an electric vehicle.
One area where it does well as an EV is offering a range of up to 475 on a single charge on higher-end trims, but that can be misleading: this big boy drinks electricity just like a gasoline-power truck can drink petrol. Caution is advised.
The base trim level, called Elevation, can be had for a starting $65K US and comes with 18-inch wheels, 33-inch tires, a 6-8-inch infotainment screen and a MultiPro Tailgate, which has six different configurations depending on what you are hauling.
At the lower trims, you will be getting around 273 miles per single charge. Not bad but not great.
I tested the top-tier Denali Max Range trim, which comes in at almost $100K US, and that’s before you start looking at all the truly-unnecessary but brilliant bells and whistles.
This is where you get features like electric 4-Wheel Drive, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and that really cool Crab Walk feature, which allows all four wheels to turn in unison when you park and stalk like a crab. Fun, Fun, Fun.
Something of note is that for 2026, GMC is not using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on its electric vehicles. Instead, it is using something called Google Built-in, which they think is pretty groovy, but I couldn’t be bothered and I felt it was a bad marketing decision.
People already have their iPhone or Android phones and know those systems. If you are trying to get people to shell out almost $100K for your electric vehicle, you don’t want to force them to learn your new operating system because you think it’s better. I did not even bother to learn it.
This is a fantasy vehicle, pure and simple, so before you buy, ask yourself: do I really need one, why do I really want it and where will I park it. If there is the slightest hesitancy in your brain or in your gut, think about renting this fabulous beast or finding a friend who has one.
In this day and age of prices being beyond ridiculous, allow this great EV truck to be a fantasy that, yes, may not turn into your husband but will be one heck of a memory.
As the weather turns here in the Northern Hemisphere, prepare for the coming cold. Make sure you have blankets and warm clothing and ideally a big bear to help keep the home fires burning as you toil.
Go ask him out for coffee. He may be wanting to talk to you as much as you have been wanting to talk to him.
Just don’t call him a Flat White: that’s a coffee in Australia.
