2026 GMC Hummer EV: Now Electric, It’s Still Big, Imposing & Fun
Once again under the care of General Motors, the 2026 GMC Hummer is now an electric vehicle, and it still has all the power and prowess of the old Hummer H2 and H3 from the early 21st Century.
And I have some thoughts:
First, the 2026 Hummer is available only as an electric vehicle. There is no ‘roar of the engine’, which to me is a bit disappointing. But should the lights ever go out in a place like Texas, you could literally use this vehicle to power your house and possibly the entire cul-de-sac (maybe).

Second, there is no on/off, start/stop button on this new-fangled electric vehicle. To get it going, you simply get in, lightly step on the brake and the Hummer will detect that you are properly in place and allow you to operate the vehicle. When you are properly parked, you can exit the vehicle, and it will shut off. Just like magic. Sorta. Honestly.
This takes some getting used to. For those of us who actually drove a Hummer in the military, it is a bit of an adjustment. Add in the starting price of around $100K US, and you have an entirely new concept for the 21st Century.

Make no mistake, this is a wide-open-spaces kind of man’s vehicle, something for your boys-night-out adventure in those places where you can truly let it all hang out.
Driving range is well over 300 miles on a single charge, and depending on the battery pack you attach, you can get up to 380 miles. Bose audio and large touchscreens are standard, and don’t worry, fellas, there is plenty of room inside for all Bear bodies, no matter how much manliness you are packin’.
Just know that you do have to step up a bit to get inside. If you are under six feet tall, well, let’s hope you have experience climbing into bunkbeds.
There are plenty of other exciting features to enjoy. The roof literally comes off so you can enjoy it in the sun and fun, which can prompt you to take off your shirt and enjoy the breeze.
One of the coolest new features on the Hummer is what’s called the Crab Walk, whereby all four tires can move in unison by 10 degrees and move sideways like a crab so that you can park or climb more easily. It’s a very cool feature, and here is a demonstration video to help explain how it works.
I tested the 3X version of the Hummer, which is the higher end trim. (The base trim is the 2X.)
My friend and fellow automotive enthusiast Tim Esterdahl from Wyoming tested the Hummer 3X (the exact same truck I did) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Here is his unbiased review of the vehicle.

Though bulky and awkward, the 2026 GMC Hummer is a fun truck to drive. It needs room, is not a city car, and it is not cheap. Make sure you can handle it, and that you can afford it. Once all those boxes are checked, have at it. And enjoy. Safely.
Happy New Year to all Bears everywhere from all of us hear at Bear World Magazine. We hope your 2026 will be shiny and new and exciting.
Stay tuned for all kinds of exciting events we have planned for you, to include Woof Week in Key West coming up in April.
