2021 VW Arteon: Plenty of room for you, your friends, your ‘stuff’
While sounding like something you may have found while searching the universe to boldly go where no man has gone before (as if that’s possible anymore), this year’s Volkswagen Arteon (where do they get these names?) is considered a midsize car and in some circles even a small sedan. (Wikipedia considers it an ‘executive’ car.)
That said, get the boys together for brunch and pack ‘em in for a test drive (seriously, this isn’t an Amazon order) and see how y’all like this luxury sedan of a ride. It’s smooth, to be sure.
Starting at $36,995 US, there is plenty of room in the boot (27 ½ cubic feet, and if you fold down the rear seats, you get 55 cubic feet –- and there you have your moveable feast). That’s generous and it works well for a sedan.
There is room for five passengers –- of average size. But I tested the Arteon with four ‘men of size.’ This car is a keeper.
The base trim is the SE. Standard features include 18-inch wheels, eight-speaker audio (Harmon Kardon primo-audio available across the entire Volkswagen lineup), keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (anymore standard but not always), adaptive suspension dampers, in-car WiFi hotspot, heated front seats, simulated leather and 8-inch touchscreen. To name a few.
Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts and a rearview camera. Other safety features can be added.
There are three trims available and if you really want to add on the luxury, you can easily top $50K US, and given today’s car market, you could easily do that while waiting awhile to receive your order at the dealer.
Mileage is 22 city / 32 highway. 2021 is the second model year for the Arteon, whose name comes from the Latin word for art: Artem. See, when you read Bear World, you get an education in world history and culture too!
For now, I will always keep you as up-to-date as I can on what’s going on with the car market – and it ain’t pretty. Prices for just about every car part are still going up, and that is slowing production, and that is slowing delivery, and that is slowing everything…….
Hang in there. Things will get better. I promise.
If things don’t get better, these guys lose money -– and they take it in the shorts.
Y’all know what that’s like to take it in the shorts!
