2021 GMC Canyon: When you need a truck for work

Starting at $26,400 US, you can get the base GMC Canyon as a basic midsized/compact truck. For that price, you get a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter, 200-horsepower engine that will get you 20 mpg city / 30 highway, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Also standard: 18-inch wheels, Rear-Wheel Drive and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

I start there because if you are looking for a basic truck (short bed, two doors, understood at the starting price) this would be a good place to start. Assuming you live or work or hang out someplace where you can park or rest this big beauty comfortably, that alone may be worth your consideration.

Naturally, there are all kinds of add-ons and fancy stuff you can get to make the Canyon as you see fit, to include getting a crew cab or a long bed. There are just four trims, one of them being the well-known Denali trim, popular across all GM models.

Across the internet, you will find this year’s Canyon is by no means considered a luxury vehicle.  Why?  Because it is not.  This is a work truck, and it is price accordingly.  Some have called the interior materials ‘cheap’, but what did Dolly Parton once say? “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap?” Just something to keep in mind.

With that in mind, if you need a truck and you plan on using it – and you know you will get it dirty – this is worth your consideration. The Canyon finds its way into many fleets.  Just sayin’.

The infotainment system is one of the easiest in car world to use.  I really like it because once you get in, even for the first time, it can sense your device, ask if you want to pair, and guide you through setup.  Once you are connected, big buttons and bright lights make it a breeze to drive and do stuff that you want to do, whether it’s listening to country western music (Dolly Parton or Tammy Wynette, or course) or figure out how that horse trailer – or that Pride Parade float – you are towing is doing.

And of course, there is plenty of room for you and those you love, however defined.  With trucks, there is (generally) plenty of room for us big boys.  Anymore, I don’t even bother to see if I can get all my friends in the truck.  I know they can fit, so that’s a good thing. The problem is always parking.  Living in the big gay city, I always think twice before I take it into town. Thusly, caution is advised before I take it to the local LGBTQI+ Center or its affiliates, to include the coffee and danish shops.

I know luxury and speed are all the rage for the 21st century.  But some of us still need to work, and at the same time, many of us are not getting reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses. The 2021 GMC Canyon just might be what you need, especially if you need a new truck.

Just a thought while you are awaiting your turn in line for a COVID vaccine.
