What to Expect at Bear Week Provincetown 2024

Bear Week Provincetown will take place from July 13 through 20. Below we have the official full schedule of events and an interview with the president of the P-Town Bears, Frank Mahoney.

Each year thousands of bears from around the world converge on the tiny queer oasis of Provincetown for one of the biggest and most acclaimed bear runs in existence. This year the Provincetown Bears have resumed their role as official organizers of the event and with the dedicated leadership of Frank Mahoney and the passion of the P-Town Bears as a whole, we just know it’s gonna be amazing!

I sat down for a quick Q&A with Frank as he and the team finalize plans for this year’s festivities to get the low down. He was also good enough to share this year’s official schedule of events with us if you want to plan your trip a bit early.

Frank Mahoney

John Hernandez (JH): Thanks for joining me Frank and for all the amazing work you and the Provincetown Bears do. For those not familiar, tell us a bit about your organization.

Frank Mahoney (FM): Ptown Bears is a non-profit, volunteer organization that produces and promotes Bear Week. Our main goal is to collectively solicit the town and create an affordable package that we feel represents the fun things to do, things to see and places to shop and eat. We know Ptown can get expensive so that is why we work really hard to give you a little taste of everything Ptown has to offer in one registration package.

We really appreciate all the folks who have supported us over the years and keep coming back to Ptown. The Provincetown Bears thank you for your continued support.

JH: Oh yes, the Bear Week Provincetown registration packages are indispensable. I am so happy you guys are back at the helm and offering them again (online sales have already ended of this writing). Speaking of, now that the Provincetown Bears are managing the schedule of events for Bear Week again, what can attendees expect?

FM: You can expect to attend your favorite events from the past, but we’ve added some new events we think everyone will really love. We also managed to get some great discounts on restaurants and stores included in this year’s registration package.

JH: I can’t wait to check out all the deals! Have any new events or parties been added to the roster?

FM: Yes, there are a few new events added to this year’s Bear Week. One event that people are looking forward to is Bears, Leather & Mayhem..the title pretty much sums it up as to what to expect at this event.

JH: Nice! And what charities are you raising funds for this year?

FH: This year, as in past years, we raised funds for the Provincetown Fire Department and the local Food Bank. We would also like to get involved with the National Seashore Restoration Project.

JH: All worthy recipients and lastly, as a PTown Bear, what are some of your Provincetown ‘must do’s’ this season?

FH: For me, I love the Dune Tours and the historic Trolly Tours…everyone knows Commercial Street, If you’d like to see what Ptown is really like, do one of these tours, you won’t be sorry. Also, Ptown has some of the best seafood anywhere.

JH: Sounds great! Thanks for joining me Frank. I’ll see you at Bear Week!

FH: Thanks! See you there!!
