The motel from ‘Schitt’s Creek’ is now for sale!
Everyone loves The Rosebud — and it’s for sale!
It’s been reported that The Rosebud Motel, which was featured in every episode of the queer comedy hit Schitt’s Creek, is now on the market! The property, which unfortunately doesn’t include the “Rosebud” sign, is apparently selling for $1.6 million US, according to various news sites.
The series followed a wealthy family who has recently fallen on hard times after the IRS seized nearly everything except a middle-of-nowhere town that they happened to own. They take up shelter at a place called The Rosebud Motel.
The actual building is called the Hockley Motel and located in Mono, Ontario, just about 50 miles northwest of central Toronto. Before being used in the famous sitcom, the motel was used as housing for Canadian basketball recruits.
The motel, which sits on 6.7 acres along the Nottawasaga River, became popular in 2014 when Schitt’s Creek began to soar. Because of its success on Netflix, fans began to flock to the popular destination to take selfies.
Jesse Tipping, the current owner bought the motel in 2012 for $820,000. It has six units, each with a bedroom and bathroom on 4,300-square-feet. It also has a two-story manager’s suite that has three bedrooms and one bath. There is also a a 700-square-foot detached guest cottage and barn with space for three horses.
Hopefully the new property can find its owner, but fans of Schitt’s Creek need to be aware — While the outside of the motel is famous, the Rosebud sign is not a part of the sale. And the interior shots are allegedly filmed in studios around the Toronto area.
