Saul Aguilar is the talented artist working under the alias Art.b34rs. His work features big bodied, masculine men in various states of undress and spicy activity in addition to “bearified” reworkings of some of our favorite comic book characters.

BWM: Tell us a little about your background and when you started creating art?

Art.b34rs: My name is Saul Aguilar, my artist alias is ​​art.b34rs. I was born in Guatemala, and live in Phoenix, Arizona. Since I was little, I have always been fascinated by art and I started drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. My passion for art intensified during adolescence, when I discovered that I could express my emotions and experiences through my works.

BWM: What is it about bears that makes you want to incorporate them into your art?

Art.b34rs: Bears represent for me a combination of strength and tenderness. I love how they challenge stereotypes of beauty and masculinity, and I want to celebrate that diversity in my art. Additionally, the bear community is very inclusive and welcoming, which inspires me to continue creating.


BWM: What initially attracted you to the bear community? And what keeps you there?

Art.b34rs: Initially, I was drawn to the bear community because of its focus on body acceptance and positivity. I felt immediately welcomed and understood. What keeps me here is the sense of community and mutual support I find in every interaction.

BWM: Do you have professional training or are you self-taught? Tell us about that.

Art.b34rs: I am self-taught. Although I have no professional training in art, I have dedicated countless hours to perfecting my technique and style. I have learned a lot through practice, observation, and feedback from other artists.

BWM: What are some of your artistic inspirations?

Art.b34rs: I am inspired by a variety of sources, from nature and photography to other artists such as Tom of Finland and Rembrandt. I also find inspiration in the stories and experiences of the bear community.

BWM: What big projects are you working on? What comes next?
