The Bears Are Coming to Ogunquit!

New group launches with inaugural Ogunquit Beach Bear Weekend this August.

Ogunquit, Maine has long been a beloved escape for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking a mix of seaside charm, nightlife, and natural beauty. Now, the town’s bear community is officially stepping into the spotlight with the launch of a brand-new group: Ogunquit Bears—a social collective for bears, cubs, and their admirers.

The group’s arrival is making waves with its first major event: Ogunquit Beach Bear Weekend, happening August 20–24, 2025. Designed as a welcoming, body-positive celebration of community and connection, the weekend promises to bring together locals and visitors alike for five days of fun, sun, and fur-filled festivities.

The launch is being spearheaded by a lineup of Ogunquit’s best-known and gay-owned businesses, including BurlyShirts (Shane Ruff Studio), the always-vibrant Mainestreet Ogunquit, the boutique inn collection of OGT Inns, and the cozy-chic Perkins Cove Kitchen.

So what can guests expect? Think hangs with your new favorite bear crew, themed parties and socials, local food experiences, live entertainment, shopping, pool parties, dancing, and plenty of time to explore one of Maine’s most picturesque and proudly queer coastal towns.

“We wanted to create something that brings together the bear community in a real, intentional way,” says Shane Ruff of BurlyShirts, one of the lead organizers. “Ogunquit has always been a place where people come to be themselves—this weekend just turns the volume up a little.”

Visitors can take advantage of,  discounted local shopping, and special dining offers throughout the weekend. With Ogunquit’s scenic beaches, walkable village, and vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, it’s the perfect backdrop for a community-focused celebration.

How to Join the Fun:

The full weekend schedule, host hotel info, and event announcements are live now at OgunquitBears.com and on the Ogunquit Bears Facebook page. Early RSVPs are encouraged, and more surprises are set to roll out in the coming weeks.

Whether you’re a local looking to connect or a bear traveler ready for your next summer escape, Ogunquit Beach Bear Weekend is shaping up to be an unmissable highlight to celebrate the end of the summer season.

Mark your calendars. The bears are coming to the beach—and everyone’s invited.
