Queer musical ‘Camp Morning Wood’ takes camp to a whole new level!
The hit Queer musical comedy of 2019 is back, kicking off the new “roaring 20s” with a new limited engagement of 10 in-person performances only during Pride month!
Get Naked LLC in association with Soiree Fair, Inc., Husani Oakley and Tym Byers present an updated version of their hit queer musical, Camp Morning Wood: A Very Naked Musical. The special limited engagement will play in Chelsea during Pride Month.
Conceived & directed by Marc Eardley, the critically acclaimed musical features book & lyrics by Jay Falzone and music by Trent Jeffords, Derrick Byars, Matt Gumley and Jeff Thomson, with arrangements & orchestrations by Gumley and Jeffords.
Camp Morning Wood tells the story of Randy, who – at a crossroads in his life after a hellish 30th birthday – finds himself at the front gate of a humble nudist camp. The camp itself is also at a crossroads, besieged by a tyrannical, right-wing Christian Senator who threatens its closure.
Randy is thrust into a weekend adventure of titillating tunes, quirky campers, and deep soul-searching. Together, Randy and the campers seek out a solution to save the camp and accept each other. They bare it all— inside and out—in this wild mix between Rocky Horror and The Wizard of Oz.
“We created Camp Morning Wood to make a statement about positive body image while telling an outrageously silly and fun story. Everyone is beautiful. Bodies are beautiful and confidence can come from the inside if humans are supported the right way. We hope our show reminds everyone of that. Our entire team of queer artists and creatives agreed that there was no better time to bring humor and levity back to New York then after this dark, dark year in our lives,” says director Marc Eardley.
The production, which was originally sponsored by The Woods Campground, first premiered in 2019 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Since then, Eardley and Falzone have updated the show significantly.
“We have a mostly queer creative team, a diverse producing team and cast, and bodies of all sizes. We reduced the cast from 11 to 7, tightened up the narrative to be focused on one lonely, ‘over the gay hill’ guy’s journey of self-discovery,” says Eardley.
“We added a handful of upgraded, truly kick-ass, Broadway quality showtunes. The music in this show is gonna knock people’s socks off — if not their entire outfit,” says Eardley.
