Bear Musician favorite Nakia released a music video for his latest single, “Thrill-O-Matic,” on April 1st and we’ve got all the details!
The music video, directed by Drew Saplin for The Direct Line, pays homage to the late-night infomercials of the 90s, like Pure Moods, Girls Gone Wild, Thighmaster, and even the one for those Ginzu knives that never went dull. After waking up on the couch late at night Nakia is sucked into the TV and teleported into the lead role of various late night commercial productions. Is this real life? Is this just fantasy? Follow Nakia through this hilarious romp of a music video for his genre-bending feel good anthem, “Thrill-O-Matic.” And yes… the phone number works! Call 1-866-NAKIA-TV!
“Making this music video was an absolute dream” said Nakia. ”Drew and the Direct Line team really knocked it out of the park. All I had to do was show up and act stupid. I spent many nights in front of the TV in the 90s so recreating these classic commercials was so much fun.”
Director Drew Saplin added: “This video’s production hits all three of my personal aspects of success: it was fun, funny, and interesting. The crew was comprised of old industry friends, Nakia was nothing short of amazing in attitude and performance, and we made something that manages to keep pace and tone with the catchy ear worm that is, “Thrill-O-Matic.””
With respect to the song itself, “Thrill-O-Matic,” fuses elements of pop, rock, and soul, creating a sound that’s been described as “The Beach Boys go to Motown,” by Kevin Connor from Sun Radio, the Austin AAA station that added the track in early August. Kevin went on to name the song one of his top five of the year alongside The Beatles, boygenius, and Black Pumas. The song takes a sharp turn from Nakia’s previous roots rock releases, while still showcasing his powerful, soulful voice and the emotional depth he is known for. “Thrill-O-Matic” was co-written with hit songwriters Andy Stochansky and Jamie Hartman, Stochansky boasts cuts with Goo Goo Dolls and Dragonette, while the Grammy/Emmy nominated Hartman has penned tracks for the likes of Rag’n’Bone Man, Jennifer Hudson, Lewis Capaldi, and Sam Ryder to name a few.
Fans can see Nakia perform “Thrill-O-Matic” live at Club Chub’s Austin debut at The Iron Bear on Sat. April 27th but until then you can check out the video below:
