Milahroy Drops New Single in Advance of Spring Tour

Milahroy speaks with us about his latest single “What If?”, going on tour soon, and more!

Milahroy (pronounced Myla-Roy) is a Los Angeles based musician hailing from a small town in Connecticut who makes indie pop music that’s meant to tug at your heartstrings and more. He is also a first generation Albanian-American. He says that he writes music to remind people to feel things as deeply as they should. Last year, he played a sold out show with Darren Hayes of Savage Garden, and has two songs titled “D.F.O.” and “The Rush” that are featured on Emmy Nominated TV series.

After listening through some of Milahroy’s discography, it wasn’t long after that I was adding song after song from his discography to my playlists for daily listening. He’s also no stranger to well produced music videos, with several of them showing off his furry chest and beautiful eyes. Check out his music video for the track titled “Pusher” with fellow artist GLD below, it’s beautifully recorded and really serves a perfect summer vibe with pool scenes and all!

Check out the interview I did with him below!

Bryce Quartz: Hey Milahroy, thanks for taking the time to speak with me today! Your latest single “What IF?” was recently released on all streaming, I’m a bit obsessed with it. That song is so beautiful and heartfelt, it made me feel something after just one listen. Can you tell us a little bit about your songwriting process for this track? What inspired you lyrically and instrumentally to create this beautiful song?

Milahroy: Thank you fur saying such sweet things about this one – “What If?” is such a special song to me and to hear it be received so well just makes me so grateful about the whole artistic process – I wrote this with my friend Emily Waldron who also produced this track, I showed up to the studio one day and she showed me this clip of a song she’s been sitting on for a while & it was the drums and synth chords. She wrote this line for the verse “it’s not that simple you’ve got too much faith to feel so little…” something clicked and the whole song wrote itself within a couple hours. The inspiration behind this track was the thought that I never wanted to live life wondering, what if? Whether it was from pursing a relationship, making a career changes, etc. this song not only sonically captured that feeling for me but lyrically made me & my close furiends weep a couple times while listening back haha. I’m hopeful it’s making people think deep! It also feels like a cinematic song from a movie! Fingers crossed that happens one day! Ha.

Bryce Quartz: This song is off your upcoming EP, can you tell us a little bit more about what we can expect sonically and lyrically from it?

Milahroy: Yes! This is the first track from my EP which will released later this summer! I have always found myself writing such introspective lyrics & sonically trying to break boundaries & push the envelope. This record is very much that – I’ve tuned into more of my Alt/Rock, Indie/Rock/Pop roots fur this record & I’m so stoked on these songs!

Bryce Quartz: I see that you’ve done quite a few amazing music videos already, do you have any music videos planned for this EP?

Milahroy: I LOVE music videos, creating a story to add to the music has always been something i’ve found so compelling with some of the artists that inspire me – I remember my first 5 videos all tied together which I found so fulfilling when my listeners would pick up on the easter eggs! — So yes, there will be videos accompanied with these new songs!

Bryce Quartz: You’re also going on tour soon (kicking off 5/17 in LA), I think I’m gonna have to make it out to your NYC show (5/28) and bring some of my bear friends with me! What can your audience expect from your live performances and what city are you looking forward to the most?

Milahroy: Ahhh! I’m so stoked fur the my oh mini tour, and I’ll FREAK OUT if I see you in NYC! I’d love that. I’m bringing my good friend Django James with me on these east coast tours and we are excited to dive deep into bringing queer rock and roll back to live music!!! It’ll be sweaty, soulful and furry! I’m really looking forward to playing at C’mon Everybody in Brooklyn! – my home state (Connecticut) comes in a close second though haha.

Bryce Quartz: Just because I’m curious and I know our readers might be too, you performed a sold out show last year with Darren Hayes of Savage Garden, what was that like working with him at the show and what was the energy like in the room as you were on stage?

Milahroy: I have been so very fortunate to connect over music with Darren Hayes – I loved hearing Savage Garden on the radio as a kid, so to support him at the Los Angeles show was truly a dream come true. He’s so inspiring & I value his feedback in regard to speaking highly of my art & love our convos about the industry.

I felt so much love in that room during the night of the show. You don’t always get a crowd that loves the supporting act to be honest, but to have people line up by the merch table after my set was so authentically validating, I’ll never forget that, and hearing people repeat lyrics to songs I just played, telling me the lyrics hit their heart strings was beyond rewarding. All I want is fur us to feel so deeply!

Bryce Quartz: For first time Milahroy listeners, what tracks from your discography would you recommend to them and why?

Milahroy: Fur my first timers! Hiiiii new furiends!!! “The Rush,” “Counterfeit Replies,” or “Cool” would be my go to picks!

Bryce Quartz: Anything else you’d like to add for our readers?

Milahroy: Only other thing is feel free to connect with me on IG or join my mailing list at www.milahroy.com

Bryce Quartz: Thanks again for taking the time to speak with me!
