Meet the Nominees: Best Bear Bar
As we announced last week, voting is open for the second annual Bear World Magazine Awards presented by Bike Athletic in association with Growlr App and the Crown & Anchor.
Bears from across the world have been nominated in ten categories and to help you make your decisions we will highlight each nominee in every category in the weeks to come. We’ll start with Best Bear Bar or Bar Night.
Kings Arms London
With a long and proud history as a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s no wonder Kings Arms London is Soho’s oldest gay bar. As firm favourite to the Bear community over the years, the locals affectionately call the bar ‘The KA’, and refer to it as ‘London’s Favourite Bear Bar’. During the weekends, patrons can expect Guest & Resident DJ’s playing disco, house and electro beats and of course there is the Legendary Bearaoke that’s been going on for over 25 years!
Ty’s
Located smack dab in the middle of Christopher Street in Manhattan’s West Village you will find New York’s original bear bar Ty’s. Now celebrating 52 years in business Ty’s has served the bear community from its very beginnings. Featuring a friendly ‘Cheers-like’ atmosphere where locals and tourists collide, Ty’s remains a cozy, welcoming place with great music, videos and as of late even gogo bears!
Hugs
The Asian Bear scene has been steadily growing through the years and Hugs has been there to serve that trend in Bangkok for seven years now. Featuring a diverse crowd, fierce queens and karaoke, Hugs is THE place to snag a cute and cuddly bear. With a delicious food menu and huge array of cocktail choices you can definitely make a night of it at Hugs.
Bacon Bear Bar
In the bear capital of Barcelona Bacon Bear Bar awaits to welcome locals and visitors from the world over to come in, have a beer and mingle with gorgeous bears; a true neighborhood bar with international flair. Their Thursday night Happy Bacon Party is bar’s most famous and features a snack included with your drink order and happy hour from 7 to 10 PM. Fridays and Saturdays feature 2 for 1 beers.
TR3S
Bar TR3S Lisboa is Lisbon’s biggest gay bar serving the bear and wider LGBTQ+ community since 2010. The venue is bear owned and operated with plenty of friendly and cute bartenders ready to show you a good time. The bar has a beautiful outside seating area and even on slower nights there is always enough of a crowd to keep one entertained. Be sure to join them for one of their famous theme nights which in the past have featured sports gear, pink, carnival and holiday prompts.
Furry Fridays
Furry Fridays us a weekly party hosted by the Harbour City Bears at The Oxford in Sydney and it goes from 7PM until last man standing. There are weekly raffle events and occasional themed nights where you can double your chances to win. A rotating set of DJ’s attend the event in addition to a fabulous lineup of queens. And while this is an official function of the Harbour City Bears, all are welcome to join in the furry fun.
