Help Fund “In Between,” A Queer Rom-Com Tackling Body Image & Love
Nicholas Molencupp is making a film that will represent all of us as “husky” men, and you can help crowdfund it!
Atlanta, GA — Actor-filmmaker Nicholas Molencupp has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the upcoming LGBTQ+ romantic comedy titled In Between, a heartfelt, funny, and emotionally resonant film exploring modern gay dating, body image, and learning to be seen — fully.
In Between follows Nick, a self-described “husky” gay man stuck in a loop of first dates, last-minute cancellations, and the quiet ache of never feeling “enough.” When he finally meets someone with promise — Beau, charming, confident, and seemingly perfect — Nick soon discovers that the cost of finally being chosen may be losing himself in the process.
For fans of the heartfelt sincerity of Love, Simon, the queer humor of Fire Island and Bros, the emotional intimacy of Am I OK?, and the iconic friendship energy of Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion — In Between brings something rarely seen in queer cinema: a rom-com where the leading man isn’t thin, chiseled, or curated for social media — but real, complex, and worthy of love.
“We don’t often see bigger gay men as romantic leads. Queer audiences deserve to see themselves represented with the same charm, nuance, and desirability that straight rom-coms have delivered for decades. This film is for anyone who’s ever felt too much, not enough — or somewhere in between.” says Writer/Co-Director Nicholas Molencupp.
The film is co-directed and produced by Juli-Ann De Barros, a South African–born filmmaker with experience across television and feature films. Raised in Atlanta after immigrating from Pretoria, she holds a BFA in Film and Media Studies from Georgia State University, along with a Production Certification from the Georgia Film Academy which led to her first studio internship on First Wives Club (Season 2). With nearly four years in the industry, De Barros currently works as a Director/Producer Assistant while developing original projects and championing inclusive storytelling on screen.
Cameron Moir, an Atlanta-based English actor known for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, Lifetime’s Just Breathe, and the festive feature The Christmas Letter with Chevy Chase, joins the producing team. Moir is committed to elevating queer voices and bringing truthful representation to screen.
Ben Baur joins as Producer. Baur is an award-winning actor, writer, and producer whose work focuses on authentic, character-driven queer stories. He has produced multiple acclaimed shorts, including Just Between Us (Best Short – Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival) and Yours Mine Ours, with projects screening at festivals such as Outfest, NewFest, and Out on Film. He is passionate about collaborative storytelling and creating heartfelt, grounded films that balance humor and emotional truth.
The project is raising funds on Indiegogo, with contributions supporting cast, crew, production, festival submission costs, and post-production. Backers may receive perks such as producer credits, set visits, premiere tickets, exclusive behind-the-scenes access, and more.
