Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus explores the spooky side of drag with ‘Diva Dracula’!
Spooky-loving bears get ready, because this new show is guaranteed to suck you right in!
Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus presents a virtual production of Lipstick & Lyrics: Diva Dracula, running March 6, 12-13, 2021 at 8:00 PM CST. A cast of talented drag performers from the Chorus will bring you the scary side of the winter, as vampires, goblins, mummies and witches cast their spell on you in this bloody good drag show.
Featuring 15 talented drag performers, Diva Dracula embarks on a journey through the macabre…with a CGMC twist, of course. “We run a wide range of scary to hysterical,” said Artistic Director James Morehead.
“A few numbers are scarier than others, but nothing is too gruesome.” Viewers can look forward to a total of 18 musical numbers including “Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Can’t Be Tamed” by Miley Cyrus, “Cannibal” by Kesha, “Spooky” by Dusty Springfield, “I Put A Spell on You” by Nina Simone and more.
With the entire 2020-21 Season based on famous novels, Bram Stoker’s Dracula made the final cut for Lipstick & Lyrics. “A spooky drag show seemed like something that CGMC hasn’t done before,” said Morehead. “It’s a blast to take drag to a different level again with this Halloween in March concept.”
Not only is the virtual element new for L&L this year, but the smaller cast makes for a more intimate experience. The audience can expect thrills, chills and two full cast numbers featuring vampires!
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus is still committed to producing virtual shows. The whole of Season 37 has been online only, with members working, rehearsing and performing via Zoom.
“We have learned a lot about how to record, combine and master things,” said Morehead. “We are adding group screen movement to this show, so new things are always being added as we learn to navigate our virtual environment more and more.” There is a long process to generating online content, and a talented team of dedicated volunteers help to make it great.
Please join us for a fun and ghastly evening of spine-chilling, stellar drag performances! Special after-parties with members of the cast will be held following each performance for a slightly higher ticket price.
“This is an awesome moment to support CGMC and enjoy a wider variety onscreen from the comfort of your home,” expressed Morehead. “Dress up and enjoy the drag show from anywhere you can log online!”
Tickets for Lipstick & Lyrics: Diva Dracula range from $15 – $40 with an additional per ticket fee.
