Award-winning, homoerotic prison drama ‘The Prince’ prepares for UK release
It may be getting cold outside, but things in the UK are getting ready to heat up!
The trailer for the edgy Chilean prison drama, The Prince (El Principe), has just dropped in preparation for its UK release, according to Out Magazine. The film has already been made available on DVD, Blu Ray and streaming platforms in the US back in July.
Based on the graphic and sensationally erotic 1970s novel by Mario Cruz, The Prince is the story of a young man named Jaime (Juan Carlos Maldonado) who is convicted of murdering his friend and sent to prison. He ends up experiencing horrific violence, love, and lustfulness, as he discovers himself behind bars.
A racy and quite hostile drama, the film explores the limits of homoeroticism, with many graphic depictions of sex (including rape), naked shower scenes, and vicious prison guards who regularly abuse the prisoners. In other words, this isn’t a light, Saturday afternoon family rom-com.
The bold and edgy film is directed by Sebasitián Muñoz, who is also one of the co-writers of the screenplay, along with Luis Barrales. The film has been critically acclaimed, winning the highly reknowned Queer Lion Prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
