2021 Volkswagen Tiguan: Just Right!
For those of you seeking something that is not too big and not too small, those who are seeking an SUV that is easy to park and can fit most of your friends who are of average-bear size…. and want a new car payment that won’t totally bankrupt you (whatever that means post-COVID, assuming we truly are here), the 2021 VW Tiguan just maybe the 21stCentury pumpkin carriage you have been seeking.
With a starting price of $25,245 US, it’s a good starting point for a good ‘starting’ car with a turbo.
First off, you aren’t going to win any races with this car and some of your ‘A’ Bear friends may not truly enjoy the ride.
Bugger off, I say. You will be just fine as you get about town to go to work, do your volunteer work and grab your primo coffee and live your fabulous-on-a-budget life. Yes, there is better luxury out there, but it will cost you. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan, officially classified as a Compact SUV, Crossover SUV, whatever … is indeed ‘Just Right’.
Mileage is 23 city / 29 highway, which is decent. There is a third row of seats to the Tiguan, but assuming you don’t use it, cargo volume is 37 ½ cubic feet. Put down that second row and you can get up to 73 ½ cubic feet for all your gear. Or friends. Or both.
I enjoyed driving the 2021 Tiguan. I tested the 2.0 SEL Premium R-Line trim, which, admittedly is their top-tier trim and starts at $39,095. It was … Nice! To say the least.
Standard on every trim are items like 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, roof rails, trailer hitch, power and heated side mirrors (always great in adverse weather), Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.
Standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision mitigation.
The tech on the Tiguan is impressive. You’ll be able to use the Volkswagen Car-Net mobile app, which will allow you to do things like start the car remotely, unlock the doors and find your car. There are many other functions which I could not figure out (I am still trying to figure out my Commodore 64) but for those who are into tech (just kidding, show me five bears who aren’t into tech), you will love this!
As you go up the trim line, the features (and the price) get more impressive, so keep all that under consideration.
I am still a big fan of test driving a car before you buy, even though manufacturers are pushing people to order and buy online. I see a real danger in that. More on that later.
For now, get in, see how it fits -– and then make your decision.
You wouldn’t really buy the XL size before trying it on, would you?
